Soulless by Gail Carriger is an adult fantasy book with crossover appeal. The book is set in Victorian England complete with bustles and balls - however, in this England there are werewolves, vampires, ghosts and preternaturals or the soulless. The supernatural is certainly a draw for the YA crowd, along with the lightness and frivolity of the characters. What makes the book adult are the numerous and occasionally steamy romantic scenes. I would only suggest this for the more mature young adult. It won an Alex Award in 2010

Agreed, Mary Beth. I started the book thinking that it was written as a YA and kept thinking to myself how risque it was! Once I realized it wasn't it made a lot more sense to me, lol...It was entertaining enough, and I liked the steampunk aspects of it.
I didn't realize it wasn't YA at first either and then when getting ready to read it I noticed it had won an Alex Award. As I read it I realized it was eerily similar to God Save the Queen which is YA and still has the romance but lacks the steamier aspects of it.
