a lot of people are talking about how the movie is so great but for those of us who read the book i think the script writers missed the whole point
in the movie they targeted cyber bullying when the book wasn't even written during the recent times of cyber bullying
and they missed the dad being a drunk and they missed the relationship conflict between the main character and her ex
and the most important part the unhealthy sex relationship she had with wesley and how she was using him to make herself forget about her problems
the movie is good and all but a letdown compared to the book
any one else agree?

Agreed! The movie was all about accepting yourself which is what usually the themes in teen movies are. The book covered many more themes and I missed seeing that in the movie. I think they could've really made the movie more interesting if they showed her dad being drunk and Wesley standing up for her in front of her dad.

YES! i refused to watch the movie cause i could already tell by the trailer that they messed up the whole point. *sigh*

i think we shouldn't compare the two of them to each other because abviouly they have completely diffrente stories ! i mean madison doesn't exict in the book ! and bianca was hooking up with wesley the wholl time not just in the end and the subject is basically diffrente

I can't say that the movie was bad just because it was different. It was a really bad book to movie adaptation but if we look at it as just a movie, than it is pretty good. I enjoyed both but seperately.

The movie really disappointed me. The book, yes, had a lot of sex and pretty intense topics, but, that was a huge part of the book. The movie was about mean girls and targeted teens who wanted that sort of movie. There was no mean girl in the book. The boy she likes (sorry I forgot his name!), never liked her friends. They actually had a mutual break up!
I didn't watch the movie for this specific reason-I knew it would be totally different than the book. But when I finally did read it, it made me sad. I mean, I swear the director(s) saw the title and the names of the characters, and said,"Let's make a movie called the DUFF, and use these names. No need to read the book."
If you liked the movie, that's good, I wish I liked it more. Anyway, that's the end of my rant! :D

I wasn't really disappointed with the movie because I think of the book and the movie as separate entities. Which I liked better because making a movie exactly like the book has potential to ruin both for me. But I realized the movie was basically a mainstream way to promote body positivity and this book does that and more. So they thought they'd make it into a movie but their target audience needs to be able to see it without parental permission, hence the over exaggerated portrayal of High School.

But one good thing this movie did do was promote the book where they could get the full message and meaning of what DUFF actually is. It's like bait.

However I was disappointed with the portrayal of the characters in the movie because they didn't quite match up (to me) to the characterization in the book. Like Bianca wasn't cynical enough, her best friends weren't anything I imagined while reading the book (looks and personality wise) and Wesley was too monogamous with the nonexistent character Madison.

Movie's a fail in comparison to the book, but think of it as it's own entity, it's pretty good.
