Tammie Tackett post here to chat about this book

Izabela Popis (Bellaandherbooks) | 11 comments The book is amazing, the film obviously cannot compare but it was still pretty good. I was most disappointed by the way Augustus was portrayed and the fact that most of his illness was skipped in the film.

book and film i got the movie when it came out

Katie K It's really hard when it comes to book-to-movie adaptions as you can't please everyone. I actually felt the movie was better than the book in the sense that the main characters (Hazel and Augustus) felt more like teenagers whereas in the book they were portrayed as if they were middle-aged people, by the way that they spoke very...eloquently? I don't know, but the way they speak is almost poetic.

Izabela Popis (Bellaandherbooks) | 11 comments Well, to be honest I assumed that they were portrayed that way in the book because the story is told by Hazel, who as we know loves literature and was bound to use more complex vocabulary. Nonetheless, I think you are right, in that sense.
I also didn't like the fact that in the film Hazel was a lot more alienated. In the book she at least had a friend with whom she liked to spend time. I felt that the film portrayed her as a loner to show us how Augustus changed her life, however, being a bit of a feminist, I didn't like it.

Kim Anderson (kimmatski) Loved this book. Threw it across the room at the wall when I was finished, but still loved it. You know what's going to happen as you're reading, but you hope maybe it won't. And then it does anyways. I think the hoping makes it even worse.

Sienna Caeryn (reader55) I became severely depressed for three weeks after reading TFIOS. The only way I could stop myself from being depressed was to keep adding on to a book vent I wrote and that only worked for like ten minutes.

Prex Ybasco (prexybasco) | 28 comments I poured my heart out in a blog post I wrote about this novel. I loved almost everything about it to the point I expected it not to have an ending just like Hazel's favorite book but then came the cheesy letter...but I guess that's that.

Shameez Papathanasiou I knew this book was going to be sad, it was obvious.

When I started reading it, I enjoyed the style so much. Hazel's sarcasm and metaphors had me laughing amidst the sad storyline.

I kept reading, and when I finished it, in bed, my husband asked if I spilled water on my pillow ;) --- I CRIED SO MUCH.

Anyway, I loved it. I aspire to write in a similar manner.

Jasmine (jassimplyreads) I LOVE the book more than the movie. Their love story was bittersweet and really meaningful. And yes, I shed tons of tears in the end but I still love it. I like the way Hazel dealt with Augustus's death and her optimistic thoughts. As for the movie, I think both Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort did a great job portraying the main characters but there was something missing in the film.
