I'm in!Book one: Furies of Calderon (I likely won't be rereading this one again until next year though as I just read it a couple months ago)
Book two: I, Jedi
Book three: The Caves of Steel
I'll read as many books in the pool as I can get my hands on or already own except FURIES since I already read it last year.

Hello Bill! The Book Pool is fully explained on the thread titled Book Pool Guidelines. To briefly summarize it, each participant adds three books to the pool and everyone reads as many books from the pool as possible during the set month. :)
Becca, would you like me to change two of my books? (I have to read To Kill a Mockingbird for school this month, so I'd rather not change that one.)
Keep Mara Dyer because I put the second one in. I always love reading To Kill A Mockingbird so I might reread it and I don't mind skipping one book.Thank you though!
Well, these books plus the group's BOTMs make eleven books, so that should keep you busy for a little while at least :)
Oops - I finished Cinder the other day!Reading To Kill a Mockingbird and about to start The Evolution of Mara Dyer
I,Jedi in progress: pg. 209Forgot what page I'm on in The Caves of Steel and I changed my mind about NOT rereading Furies of Calderon. Waiting for it to arrive. I'll read as many of the others as I can when I finish those three...IF there's time left in the month.
Just finished The Scorpio Races and really really liked it. Also picked up The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer from the library earlier today.
As of yesterday, I finished all 270 pages of my copy of Asimov's THE CAVES OF STEEL, was on page 396 of Michael Stackpole's I, JEDI and on page 234 of Jim Butcher's FURIES OF CALDERON which I changed my mind about NOT rereading this year.As for the other books in the pool, I would have to order them through inter library loan and might not get them in time to have read them by the end of the month. I'll look through the library catalog to see.
Sounds good! I totally understand that; although I would love to re-read Cinder, it's almost impossible that I'll actually get it from the library in time. :/
Updated the points.
Updated the points.
Cinder MIGHT be one I can get from my library, provided no one else has it at the moment.I know I was seriously disappointed in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD when I had to read it in high school. One reason I can remember for that was that I damn near burned the book because my particular copy had a font so small that I needed a freaking magnifying glass to read it and I had to sit by the living room window. And you know what happens in situations like that!
Haha yeah I'm reading it as a summer assignment for my American Literature class. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if I didn't have to stop and answer questions in-depth between each chapter :/
We didn't have to answer questions like that because we had to read the books during the school year instead of summer vacation. I lived in Arizona at the time and the lack of a summer reading list from school was a small act of mercy. If we had had to answer questions like that I'd have gotten an F on it automatically for writing "I couldn't see the font because it was too small. You try to not set the damned book on fire via magnifying glass!" on each question!
Great! Updated pointed. I'm just beginning to re-read The Fault in Our Stars for the BOTM, so I'll pick up another of these books when I'm done with that.
I finished To Kill a Mockingbird last night. Will try to start A Clash of Kings later this afternoon.Absolutely love TKAM, and I really want to get a copy of Go Set A Watchman. I agree that the highschool discussion stuff tends to ruin the books that they get you to read. I thought the same thing when I read The Hatchet at school, although I quite like the book.
@Amber: Not sure which book you're referring to. Go Set a Watchman is Harper Lee's new book and the sequel to TKAM. Hatchet is a book I had to read in early high school (about 9 years ago?). It's a series and a really good one at that. I would definitely recommend it.
I have unfortunately come to the conclusion that I will NOT be able to read any of the other books in this month's pool as 90% of the available copies are at SCHOOL libraries and since the majority of schools are OUT for summer... .That said, as of last night I finished FURIES OF CALDERON.
I'll update the points as soon as I can get to my computer. Sorry to hear that! At this point though, you might still beat me!
For everyone reading TKAM this month: http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2...Becca: Yeah. :(
Sydney: If I do, I do. If I don't, I don't. I don't particularly CARE if I beat anyone or not.
I don't think I am going to finish Clash of Kings before end of the month. I keep forgetting how long these books are.
Amber wrote: "Did anyone get to read the NPR article about the cake mentioned in TKAM?"Forgot to come back after I read it, haha.
I find it amazing that something that something that had a repeated presence throughout the (ridiculously famous) book was so unknown to people nowadays.
Yeah. It's like if I ever have kids how do I answer them when one asks me "Mom, who was John Wayne?"
Finished Evolution of Mara Dyer last night. @Sydney, you HAVE to read the second one. It gets so much better!
I'll definitely be reading it soon! I'm only about 50 pages from the end of book 1, and I have absolutely loved it! :D
Becca wrote: "@Amber, by John Wayne you mean Three Musketeers? Ah, I'm too young..."
I haven't seen any of those. I prefer his work in the movies, with the exception of his pro-Vietnam War film THE GREEN BERETS. Vietnam, like EVERY war since the US MURDERED four generations of Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th & 9th, 1945; has been a WASTE of time, talent and treasure (both monetary and human)!
I finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer last night and just picked up #2 from the library! Great book!!
As of yesterday I had read 157 pages of ACADEM'S FURY and 42 pages of DUNE: HOUSE ATREIDES. I will be starting the Brother Cadfael story on Saturday after I get home from grocery shopping.
I started Mara Dyer #2 last night and read the first 300+ pages before going to sleep. XD I love that these books are such fast reads!
