Thank you for the kind words. I still struggle with the commas, but with each new book I get more help with the editing, so cross your fingers. :-)
Thanks for your answer(s) Mr Manning. As for the commas, it's indeed getting better in book 3 (still a few missing but hey, let's just look at the bright side of things. I'm crossing fingers and toes for the next book though. Cant' hurt).
Now, the release of book 4...a few months...that's eons for us *sigh* Oh well, it'll give time enough for the editor to deal with the commas thing (j/k).
NB: The Dorian/Penny/shiggreths part nearly gave me a heart attack. GOSH!!!
I'm over 70% through the book now and I can't wait to see how things will end up

The best part is yet to come Ferial! The ending of Archmage Unbound is definitely the high point of the series thus far.
About the commas... my original problem was that I used them too frequently. As you know, there are places where they are required but they can also be added in spots simply to denote a pause in the cadence of the sentence. I had a tendency to use them very frequently (while not using ellipses at all).
My early readers (old friends), helped to break me of that habit, but now I find that I am underusing them. We'll see how I do in the fourth book. I look forward to sharing it with everyone.

I read the books about 9 months ago (for the first time that is), and cant stop reading them! I have read the whole series about 3 times. In those reading hours I could start to see the errors in the writing. It kind of took some of the fun out to the book. But I have to say when i write I also use either to many commas or to little. (as you can see in this paragraph, guess how I was feeling.)
Commas are very important in general for the reasons you mention, and in particular for non-english native speakers/readers (I'm a french native one).
Bloody commas.
I understand where your problem comes from . I'm sure book 4 will be okay. You've shifted from overuse to underuse ? Book 4 will show "normal" use :)

I actually was pleasant surprised with the books, I especially love the complexity you hint at in the magic system without getting into nothing boring in it, hope you keep up with the great work ;)
Since I am new to the group and Michael might think I am starting to stalk him, I better introduce myself! Hi, I am Jeryme! I stumbled upon this series when I was looking for something to read when I ran out of books in another series I like, The Sovereign of the Seven Isles by David A. Wells. Apparently Mr. Manning had just released The ArchMage Unbound. I purchased the first book and read it straight through (my wife was furious with me, nothing got done for 36 hours! 22hrs it took to read it then I had to sleep!!!) Needless to say I have been hooked since!!
I've just read books 1-3 and I have to say to Mr. Manning: you are a wonderful story teller. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of book 4. You deliver perfect explanation of the runes and the spells, and leave just the right amount up to the imagination. A few times I was thinking ahead trying to predict what would happen, thinking I would be right, only to have a twist that prove me utterly wrong. For someone like myself who has been waiting to find a book to put the magic back into the world that the Harry Potter series left behind when it ended, this series does a damn good job. :)
It's funny because after I posted that comment I was like "lemme do some serious research and find out if there's a release date..." Lo and behold, I purchased it 5 minutes later. Lol.
You know what ? I haven't read yet (I know, I know). Why ? Well simply because I had already started the Mistborn series and I couldn't just stop right in the middle if it, could I ? (Could anyone ?).
As soon as I'm done with the Hero of Ages (which should be very soon), I'll restart the entire Mageborn series. Can't wait. Truly.
I've missed Mordecai.

I've just read all 4 books in the space of a couple of weeks!! they're soooo good! the only thing is though, the 5th book isn't in my hands yet!So, my question is.... when will the 5th book be released??
I'm working on it but I don't have a timeline for you yet. My goal is to have it out within twelve months, but it might be sooner than that.

Book four ended really well, i didn't expect that at all. keep up the good work.
Ok, book finally came out. I got around to it about 3 weeks ago on vacation. And i have to say it was the best book yet!!! Great book!
Mr. Manning, these books are absolutely awesome! I'm a Sophomore studying engineering and was thoroughly disappointed with "The Fall of Five" released a few weeks ago, so I sourly went looking for another decent book. And might I say, well done! I read the first book in roughly 6 hours the night I purchased it and didn't stop until I had all four read. I love how intricate the magic system is, and how interesting it is to read. I would like to say thank you for writing these tales down and to feel free to let me know if you need another proof reader! Please release the next sooner rather than later, Happy writing!
I've read something about "The Final Redemption" being the title of book 5. But better wait for the author to confirm.
I just can't wait. I have not read book 4 and am itching all over :) I am actually waiting for book 5 to be published and then I'll re-read the entire series...unless book 5 is not the final one.
Is it ?

I have news about book five, Mageborn: The Final Redemption
I should be able to begin pre-sales on Amazon in a week or two. If things go smoothly the actual release will be on December 31st. If there are any hiccups it might be the first week of January (at the latest)...
Michael ? I was wondering.
I know you're just done with The Final Redemption and you're busy editing it and you probably want to breathe a bit after that but have you ever considered writing a prequel ? The story of Mordecai's parents (even if we know how it ends) would be great.

An absolutely amazing series. Such detail, but not the boring type. I so love this series. I miss Mort and Penny already. Read the series 3 times.Great job Mr. Manning.
I just finished reading it. I thought that it was was a dark and depressing and sad. But I still read the whole thing in less than 24 hours. And I loved it.
I have bought it but I have not read it yet (even if I'm dying to lol). I'll patiently wait for the following books to start the read.
Plus "sad and depressing" are not allowed in my life just now :)

Honestly though. I have read a lot of books and this is probably the third most depressing book ever. First is the Farseer Trilogy and the second is the Tawny Man (both by Robin Hobb)
Oh I know these 2 trilogies and I have loved the read. But if The Mountain Rise is less depressing, then I think I will manage :)

I've just discovered the Mageborn series and I have to say I was surprised. Might I add that the surprise was (very) pleasant ?
I've just started book 3 and I love it the way I loved the first 2 books. It's refreshing, creative (I understand now why I will never ever write fantasy. One has to have a huge imagination...I'm not one of those...obviously) and I got attached to the characters - all of them - which is, according to me, one of the most important requirements for a good read.
One thing though. If you read me Mr Manning, could you just make sure there are commas where there should be ? (I'm fond of commas) :)
I've also just discovered that there would be a book 4...soon...hopefully ?
