Blurb for Night Broken (ACE edition) is up. #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
:D Poor Mercy
That sounds good. I am sort of glad that we get more with Adam's ex, wish it wasn't at Mercy's expense. We can only hope that by the end she is one of the bodies that is piling up! lol
I am intrigued by Christy. Who would turn away from Adam? I like that I'm going to get to meet her but I don't want Mercy to get insecure about her relationship. That's one of the things I love about these books, the solidity of the couples. Still, can't wait to read it! Thanks for the blurb, Has!
I go back and forth on Christy. She isn't a real good mother or wife. But, at the same time, I can understand some of what made her that way--I mean all the miscarriages, a husband who is NEVER going to get old, so that she will start to look like one of those hags who's trying to hold on to her youth, plus of course, his commitment to the Pack itself. I'm also a little bit surprised that Bran allowed divorces. Of course--if you KNOW that your husband can rip you to pieces as an animal, you probably are NOT going to say anything about his being a were but still. . .
I don't know. I feel like she's already done the plot with the pack being against her and she's done multiple plots where there's a threat to Mercy and Adam's relationship. I hope the larger threat of this mysterious ex is the main focus here. The above blurb kind of made my heart sink. I love P Briggs, so of course I'll snap this one up. But I'm worried.
Do you all think that after all of this Mercy and Adam would break up? :( Or worst case scenario, one of them actually dies?
I don't see Adam and Mercy ever breaking up. Their love is a constant and that's what I love about this series. Well, one of things anyway. I look forward to seeing Mercy put Christy in her place. :)
Eep solo excited! Am glad there will b so much pack and Jesse I'm assuming page space!!!!
According to what Patricia Briggs said at When Words Collide, Night Broken is slated for release March 2014. YAY!
TOO FAR AWAY in time. I want it now, now, now! (throwing whopper of a temper tantrum.) Ok, ok, I'll be good and wait. But I really do feel like throwing that temper tantrum.
Something to tide us over till the next book, here are 15 questions about characterization. How well do you know Mercedes Thompson?http://www.goodreads.com/quizzes/2953...
Interview with Dan Dos Santos and other ideas for the cover. Also, an interview with the model who poses as Mercy. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/09/cove...
Finally! I love it! I love Dan Dos Santos' artwork and find his process of using models and actually painting each and every cover impressive. Thanks for posting the link, Nikki. :)
I love the art work but she's a lot more boob-tastic than I picture Mercy. Maybe I'm just used to seeing Mercy from the back on the covers.

I'm so tired of Mercy getting the short end of the stick (so to speak). The pack(mostly) doesn't like her, the supernatural world would love to see her dead, and just when things calm down and she's about to have a few moments of peace, here comes the ex wife, wanting Adam back, turning the REST of the pack against her, and bonus points! The dude the ex is running from? AIN'T HUMAN. And guess what? MERCY is the only one who can stop him.Jeeze...can't she ever catch a break? I don't know if I'm down for more "Mercy Bashing." So far every. Single. Book. Come on PB. She's been everything from flat out raped to having both legs and both hands damaged, putting her in a freaking WHEELCHAIR for 2 months, having to 100% depend on others for everything.
ENOUGH. Let's give the ole coyote a HAPPY book huh? Just one? Please? Don't hurt her or try to kill her, or have her PACK try to kill her? For one book? Could still be good huh?

How about a nice straightforward mystery where the Pack supports Mercy and she doesn't get hurt at all. That would work, right?
Well I don't know about Mercy not getting hurt. That seems to be pretty standard for UF heroes and heroines BUT it would be nice if the whole Pack could support her for once. *cough*Honey*cough*

Krista D wrote: "I love the art work but she's a lot more boob-tastic than I picture Mercy. Maybe I'm just used to seeing Mercy from the back on the covers."I agree she is pretty boobilicious in that picture and they look fake I can't see Mercy having fake boobs!
I am so excited for this one I hope Mercy & Jessie show Christy the door and tell her it only swings the one way buh bye! I hope we get the two of them supporting each other, I can't in any way shape or form see Adam taking Christy's side over Mercy's , and it seems like I remember that none of the pack liked Christy either so hopefully they like Mercy at least more than her and will have her back!
Well, Mercy sure has had a difficult time of it. But then again, she found Adam. She became the step-mom to a girl she really likes and who likes her. She re-united with her father figure, Bran and her best friend, Sam. So all in all, I don't think Mercy would go back to the way things were before.
I don't want things to go back to "the way they were" so much as I'm getting really sick of every single book being about Mercy Almost Dies. Somebody Tried to Kill Mercy. Can Mercy Save the Pack? Seriously. Can we have one where noboby tries to kill the old coyote, hates on the old coyote, like Ann said, a nice, straightforward mystery where the pack and the supes come together to solve it?Why every book gotta have Mercy's life at stake? Why? WHY??? You get all invested in a character, then every book thereafter something or somebody wants her dead.
It gets dishertening after awhile. Like this book. I was all "YAY! A NEW ONE!!! Until I read the preview. Now it's Dammit. Again? Somebody wants her dead AGAIN? And after all she went through for the pack, they STILL WON'T ACCEPT HER?"
Good Lord. how much is a fan to take?
But that's just kind of the standard for all of UF, isn't it? It isn't specific to the Mercy series. Whether it's a male or female protagonist, they are always getting beat up in every book and having to defeat the latest big bad to save the world, their town, their friends, or whathaveyou.
That's true Veronica G. BUT, and this is a big one--they do have the support of their friends--and if they are a shifter--or are involved with a shifter (Kate Daniels) at least most of the pack supports them and fights with rather than against, them. That's all we're asking for our Mercy--that the Pack gets over it already and accepts her. Or that pseudo Daddy, Coyote, comes and pays a call on a few of the major pains. (Now, wouldn't that be interesting? Having the rest of the Pack discover that our Mercy is actually a child of Coyote?
