This is a ya or kids novel, possibly the first in a series. The protectors sleep until needed, only one stays awake to watch for danger. the boy's mother has mental health or other problems.

Some other things I remembered. Some of the sleepers dont wake up when they are supposed to. And I think there's a junkyard that's also important to the story

I read it early last year, it was on an ebook reader and I deleted the file. I don't know when it was published probably within last few years though

I am still looking for the book, just haven't been to the site for a while (life, you know). It's neither of the suggestions made.

Who is the boy hiding from and why is he in need of protection? For example: does he have special powers, is he a threat to someone, etc.?
What about his father or the rest of his family, siblings, etc.?
special powers or is the "chosen one" It takes place in a contemporary real world. I can't remember if he has siblings.
I remember he has a hideout/hideaway place that he goes to and that's where a talisman of some kind ends up.
I'm not sure if his father has disappeared or if I am getting another story mixed in.

Not the Cypher. The boy is a teenager, I want to say around 14/15. I think it's set in America. I think partway through the book, time goes strange and his town etc disappear until he sets things right again.
