I was bullied a lot in high school. Got my nose broken twice, bruised kidneys, verbal abuse, etc. My dad had molested me, which I confided to a teacher. Instead of reporting it or helping me, as I thought she would, she told the bullies of the school. She was fucking two of them. Skank. The first I knew of it, I was walking down the hall when the bullies came up to me and asked loudly, in front of everyone, "So, O'Donnell...what's it like to fuck your dad?" Pretty awful. Then a rumor spread that I was a lesbian, which I wasn't but sort of wished I was (I thought all men were like my family back then), and in a tiny farm town of 600 bible-thumping, river dunking fundamentalists, even the adults believed the incest was God's righteous punishment. I got out as soon as I could, and was soon teaching art therapy at an abused children's home. That's the best way I know of to keep terrible memories from eating you: use them as a tool to help others.
