I'm currently listening to
I'm not a big audio fan but he narrates his own books which makes it easier for me.
I recently bought Vietnamese Home Cooking by Charles Phan. I haven't cooked anything from it yet but I want to and the photos and stories are very good. I especially loved the story of the first Thanksgiving meal he cooked as a teen aged immigrant. I've also recently read Rebuilding the Foodshed: How to Create Local, Sustainable, and Secure Food Systems. I'm very interested in the subject but would have preferred a book with more information and fewer sermons

Lot's of great places to eat there but I haven't tried any recipes at home. The other book you mentioned is a topic that I find really interesting also. Have you looked into CSA's in your area?
Yes we're members of a CSA. We get fully grass raised beef and true free range chicken and eggs plus garden produce in season. We also get local produce from farmer's markets. The big benefit is knowing the people who raise our food. Having raspberries that taste like raspberry and tomatoes that are red and juicy and delicious (I could go on and on) is a plus as well. The anonymity of our food distribution system where food is grown on enormous farms and shipped thousands of miles to strangers encourages a lack of accountability and responsibility just like the anonymity of the Internet can lead to rudeness and ugly behavior. Uh oh I'm preaching now!

I picked up
at the library today. Thought I would try a few recipes from it before I committed to buying it. Does anyone have this &/or tried any recipes from it?
I've been exploring the author Kay Shaw Nelson. I enjoy her writing style and share her interest in international cuisines. So far I've read:
The Best of Western European Cooking - 5 stars
Cuisines of the Alps - 3 stars
The Complete International Breakfast/Brunch Cookbook - 3.5 Stars
I'm waiting for this one to arrive:
The Scottish-Irish Pub and Hearth Cookbook: Recipes and Lore from Celtic Kitchens
Other books she's written that I would like to read:
Cuisines of the Caucasus Mountains
All Along the Rhine
The Eastern European Cookbook
Has anyone else read Kay Shaw Nelson's books?
Guilty Pleasure Book - "Diners, Drive ins and Dives: Season 5". So sue me, I love the show big time. But that doesn't mean I'll eat everything I see on that show, but every now and then they play an episode and I think, "Gosh that actually looks and sounds REALLY delicious. Eg squash and spinach lasagna, salmon and pesto burgers, not to mention some great greek and bbq food. Im post it noting some pages and skipping others.
