I noticed that there are only a handful of us here - not that I mind ... but my curiosity has become aroused.

Welcome, Tom! I think women on GR tend to outnumber the men generally, at least the groups of which I am a member :)
None whatsoever. Like I said, could be the groups I'm in, or maybe the guys are just more quiet than the women, which makes it seem like there are fewer men?
I think many more book group members in the "real" world are women than men, and I would guess that more Bookmarks subscribers are women. As a generality, it could be that women are more interested in the communal and conversation aspects of a book discussion. Of course, that's a gross generalization. Could be that groups devoted to non-fiction, adventure or scifi have a higher proportion of men. I was following a Moby Dick group a while back and that had a lot of men. Certainly more best-seller fiction books are bought by women according to what I have seen in newspaper articles.
