Hi, my name is Christine[Chris].
I am the creator of this group, and I hope it will become a great source for 'clean' books that are free of explicit sex and profanity, but also free of the religious proselytizing[preaching] that can be so prevalent in the Christian/inspirational books.

While at the same time having great sexual tension, with at least a few great kisses, and exciting/heartwarming romance, in the case of romances which this group was first about.

I hope visitors will suggest discussion categories that they would enjoy, and please tell your friends about this group, and be sure to click on "bookshelf" in the top right corner for books that members have read, for possible new authors/titles for you to read.

Happy Reading!!!

message 5: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizringrose) Hello, my name is Liz Ringrose. I've been an avid reader all my life and I also write. I'm thrilled to have joined Goodreads and look forward to meeting lots of readers and authors here. I have a novella, Favourite Things, available on Amazon Kindle and wondered if I could add the title here on Clean Reads. It is set in the Austrian city of Salzburg about a girl who works on a Sound of Music tour. Could someone let me know if this is appropriate? Regards, Liz.

Hi Liz,and WELCOME.
I know I don't mind if you add your novella to the bookshelves here and all of your favorite Clean books that you have read,as well.

That is what I am hoping for is that we will become a good, alternate source for clean books that are NOT in the Christian or Inspirational category, since those are already, well covered.

ETA: Unfortunately due to someone removing books from our bookshelves, I had to disable the option to allow "anyone" to add books. If goodreads ever changes it so that only group creators or the MODS are able to delete books from a group's bookshelves, I will gladly re-enable that feature.

message 7: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizringrose) Hi Christine, thank you so much. I will upload the link. It will be lovely thinking back over my clean reads and posting recommendations, too. So glad I found this group.

message 8: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 101 comments Welcome! Nice to 'meet' you :)

I need to post my recommendations as well! (Mine will be regency recommendations as I am regency romance reader ;)) but I am rather busy at the moment (exams) soon though! I look forward to seeing your recommendations :)

message 9: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizringrose) I'm good friends with an excellent regency author, Amanda Grange. I love her novels. Good luck with your exams, Soph :-)

Liz (lizringrose) Sorry, I should have said it's by June Kearns :-)

message 19: by Angela (new)

Angela Loupe (angeloup) Hello!! I was intrigued by this group's mission and asked to join. Although I joined Goodreads a couple years ago, I haven't really used it. Hoping to find some new eBook authors that I can read without feeling bad if my children open them up.

Hi Angela,and WELCOME!
So glad you found our group, and I hope you find some titles that you will love.

Most are also available for Kindle[sorry not sure about other eReaders],and I hope you find this group helpful as a source for titles then you could check to see if they are in the eBook format you need, and borrow from your library or at booklending if you just want to borrow, instead of purchase the book.

message 21: by Gabriella (last edited Jul 09, 2013 06:30PM) (new)

Gabriella (gabriella17) Hello All,
Fascinated to run into this group: I'm a freshly minted Goodreads Author, my first novel is a historical romance set in the Hungarian revolution of 1956 that can't find a home in most romance sites because it's not explicit enough, and it has no hot teenage vampires to boot.

It's also nice to know that there's fans of romance that prefer no religious overtones. I'm looking forward to checking out the bookshelf here. Please contact me if you would like a free copy of my ebook in exchange for a review. gabriella1962@hotmail.com

Happy Reading! :]

message 23: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Hartman Hello everyone! I'm so excited I found this group on goodreads. I too am always looking for exciting yet clean romance novels to read. I also recently published my first novel, Deceiving the Duke of Kerrington. It's a clean regency romance that doesn't lack passion. I added it to the group bookshelf so check it out if you're interested in that type of novel. I can't wait to read some of your suggestions!

Thank you for adding to our bookshelf and best wishes for success with your writing. :]

message 25: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Hartman I hear ya...when I first joined Pinterest that's all I could do as well! It is addicting. North Idaho is beautiful...I am further north up in Bonners Ferry but I've been to Kellogg several times!

Oh I'm not familiar with your area.My dad was in the Air Force and stationed at the base in Spokane,WA. when I was born, but my mom's mom and dad lived in Kellogg, and through the years had family, there and Post Falls, plus Montana and WY.So that is where we went on vacations. My dad[from Wisconsin] loved the area so much that is where he retired[Spokane].I do think the pacific NW is the most beautiful part of America besides Hawaii.

message 27: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Hartman Oh it really is beautiful. I have yet to be to Hawaii but hope to get there soon!

message 28: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteklarsen) | 14 comments Hello! My name is Annette and I am a lover of clean romance. It's by far my favorite genre to read, as well as write. I love finding these groups filled with kindred spirits who appreciate true love stories. My first book was just published and I'm thrilled to have it out there after working on it for so long. If you'd like to take a look, here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E...

message 29: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) hi everyone! love the idea of this roup. :) ive added to the bookshelf and have reviewed all of them on my goodreads page if anyone needs more detail . A Few have mild cussing (as in d's) what i would call "my grandad's cussing". And nothing explicit as i dont read that type of book.I always give a content review (sex, language, drug/drinking paranormal etc ) and tv rating on my reviews.

message 30: by C., Group Creator (new)

C. | 921 comments Mod
Hi Dorcas,WELCOME to the group! Thank you so much for adding to our bookshelf, and for mentioning the mild cussing in some of the books.

I was just wondering if I should post a request for members who add books to the shelves to rate them and include reviews.I haven't decided about that yet,but I know I very seldom have ever read a book without reading it's synopsis and reviews[good and bad] first.

I hope you will find new books and authors here to enjoy. :]

message 31: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) Thanks, Christine! I know I will. ;)
Is there a place to put reviews with the books on the shelf as we add them (or edit them)? I'm happy to go back and add my reviews to the ones I listed.

message 32: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) You know what? hmmmm. I may need to remove a couple books I put on the bookshelf. They would probably be classified as PG not G. Is PG still ok? Or what about PG-13 (if its for thematic elements but not sex/language/gore. For example, medical procedures during childbirth or war...)I'm talking about books I would let my teen daughter read but may not be strictly classified as G?

message 33: by C., Group Creator (last edited Oct 25, 2013 08:38PM) (new)

C. | 921 comments Mod
Yes, over to the far right on the bookshelf in the horizontal column of each title there is an edit button you can click,it will bring up the space to add your review, choose the shelves[genres it matches] read-start, and end dates. These options should pop up when you click Add Book To Group.First you get a big page then you get the small page.

As long as any book adhere's to the limit's of not being sexually explicit, vulgar, and not graphically violent, they should be fine.

Loren Secretts | 44 comments Hello All, I'm enjoying this group, and the contributions of the other posters.
Ever since I read "Are You My Mother" (P.D. Eastman) all-by-myself (!), my favorite past-time has been reading.
In the past few years I've been indulging in my other passion--writing.
Recently my manuscript has been accepted for publication by Astraea Press, and I'm looking forward to the editing and publication process.
Thanks for having me!
Loren

Jim Vuksic Hi! I'm Jim Vuksic.
I was immediately attracted to this group when I read its purpose.
I was married for 35 years and my late wife and I had 5 children together; so I've had enough of explicit sex!
Looking forward to becoming acquainted.

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) Jim you're a riot! Welcome to the group!:)

Looks like a great group! I love to read almost any genre, but I specifically write YA and clean contemporary romance, so it's nice to see that others are looking for books that specifically don't have a lot of language, violence or sex. I'm going to take a look at the bookshelf!

Welcome Kate!
A group can never have too many avid readers or good authors.

message 43: by Mary (new)

S.M. Anderson (smandersonfiction) I'm Sarah age 31 and I write under the pen name S. M. Anderson. My debut novel, COPIED came out a few days ago. (YAY!) I grew up mostly overseas and on the east coast. I'm very excited about this group because it can be hard to find clean reads that aren't preachy. Preachy books make my skin crawl....

Sarah,I read the synopsis of Copied and it sounds exciting,is it available for the Kindle?

message 49: by Karen (new)

Karen | 1 comments I'm Karen and I write a cozy camping series. I was delighted to find this group, because, although my BA is from the U of Iowa in religion studies, I find it very offensive when someone assumes that I have no beliefs unless I agree with them! The term 'Christian' has been warped to mean only one strand of Christianity. I want at least some of the characters in the books I write and read to be caring, concerned individuals without being 'in your face' about whatever they believe.

Stephanie Fowers (guitarbabe25) Hi my name is Stephanie Fowers and I'm the author of Jane and Austen. I'm starting a line of sweet romances called Hopeless Romantics and I'm trying to get to know the community better. Thanks for letting me join!
