This one is definitely at the top of my list too. But have you read Liz Curtis Higgs' Lowland of Scotland series? It's wonderful.
most romance books written today contains elaborate descriptions of sex .. personally i think these descriptions devalues true love ans try to replace it with something cheap ,,,any thoughts ?
Wonderful book!!!! LOve LOVE, it. Have you read more of Francine Rivers, like the Mark of the Lion series? they are amazing.
Also if your looking for anything else try Julie Lessman's Daughters Of Boston/Winds of Change series.
These are great especially if your going through book withdrawl :)
Kristen wrote: "This one is definitely at the top of my list too. But have you read Liz Curtis Higgs' Lowland of Scotland series? It's wonderful."That is an amazing series too! I don't know if it is better than Redeeming Love but is very close. The Mark of the Lion series is amazing as well!
Pearl in the Sand has been my latter favorite, although Redeeming love is hard to rival http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/80...

Jonida,
I agree. I absolutely loved Pearl in the Sand. If it's not The NUMBER ONE Book I've read then it's definitely the next best. Definitely in my top 3 best books of all time i've read. Redeeming Love and Pearl in the Sand are my top 2. :-D

I had read Francine River's rendition of Rahab before, but this one was so much more thorough, so complete . I loved hearing the struggles of Rahab and Solmone because of their heritage. Made them so much more real in my eyes. Also the love story is beautiful, as are all the other characters that she developed.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did :)
Probably only love story that can compare is the mark of the lion series, also by Francine Rivers. I'm always telling anyone who loved Redeeming Love, they HAVE TO read this series as well, I can't decide which one I like better.
I can think of one better Israel my beloved by Kay Arthur....this book was too sexually graphic for Christian fiction for my liking, but many many others do love it.
gertt for my liking it was more than I was comfortable with.....that's fine that your comfort level is different than others. there are people that read Christian fiction that are not comfortable with the content of this book and before they read it they may want to know that.....that's a personal preference not an argument or a fact for correction......that's all I'm saying.
One must understand that the book is about a controversial topic, but when you see it as a real-life example of how much God loves and forgives us it becomes so awe-inspiring. This book is life-changing. It made me fall in love with Jesus all over again every time I've read it. I can understand why some people will feel uncomfortable with some of the content, but it is based on a true story, and wouldn't have been right to leave it out. It's the way it was.
gertt no offense taken thanks so much for your kind words tho....bookworm....this is based on Hosea and Gomer which is the analogy of God's love for Israel nothing uncomfortable told about the story in the word of God. God's love is more beautiful then man can even fathom so yes it's a very beautiful story I just prefer it told in the bible because all of the graphics were left out all you need to know is gomer was who she was and Hosea had to love her as such. I am so glad you found love for Christ again and again in the story i'm sure that was the goal for Mrs. Rivers writing of the book. That is the most important thing not who likes what. it matters not that I am uncomfortable with the description of the scenes there are many many more people who are given the gift of understanding forgiveness through this book and if they accept the forgiveness of Christ then Praise God! that's what counts not my opinion. "Christian" material is all I read so I choose to shelter my mind more than some, that's all, I realize i'm a very small population in regards to this conversation. Its good to hear you were blessed by the book have a blessed day as well!
This was such an inspiring book!!! It is going to stay with me for a very long time!!! What a wonderful love story!!!!
Rivers is a very honest writer, she doesn't sugar-coat anything. It's one of the things I most admire about her. Many of the Christian fiction writers keep the details vague, trying not to step on anyones toes...however, the best books are always the ones that take a risk...
Gosh, feel I should weigh in on this. My book was rejected by Harvest House because it is too warm, yet Bethany House almost bought it. I think it is impossible not to offend someone but, when dealing with a touchy issues like prostitutes, I believe there are ways to describe things without being graphic. Redeeming Love dealt with subject matter that simply isn't for everyone. I love this book by Francine, but my second favorite of hers is The Last Sin Eater. I'm a mountain gal, so this one touched my heart.
Terri wrote: "gertt no offense taken thanks so much for your kind words tho....bookworm....this is based on Hosea and Gomer which is the analogy of God's love for Israel nothing uncomfortable told about the stor..."I wonder if there is an unedited version? The one I read didn't talk about anything in graphic sense. I feel the bible itself is a lot more graphic.
It's not that I want to read about sex or details of the evil things that happened to our Heroine but I did find when it came to her relationship with the Hero, the lack of more intimate details left me feeling they hadn't really connected. Know what I mean? Maybe you don't because I read an edited version? Whatever it was, it left the romance aspect of the book wanting. You can connect characters intimately without having to detail sex. I felt the writer hadn't done that to my satisfaction. Still a really good book though!
gertt wrote: "Mrsbooks wrote: "It's not that I want to read about sex or details of the evil things that happened to our Heroine but I did find when it came to her relationship with the Hero, the lack of more in..."I don't know. The person I was responding to said the book was graphic. That's why I was wondering if what I read was an edited version or something.
You've got to read A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers as well!THAT is my topmost love story book. Absolutely amazing!
And make sure you've got its sequel with you as well... trust me ;)
i received this book as a birthday present from some christian friends. For my 21st birthday i believe(long time ago!lol) But when i saw it i thought 'yeh like im ever going to read that probably!' But i guess i picked it up because i ended up reading it 'religiously' haha and i just loved this book! I love that its based on truth and in the bible and i really like Micheal, i mean who couldnt admire his sheer determination and trust in the Lord? He never truly doubted that this was what he was supposed to do. Amazing story, i am so very glad that i read this book.

Her whole Mark of the Lion Trilogy is awesome!
I loved them all!

This is why I stopped reading romance novels. I felt the authors are not showing the love in the relationships, thinking just showing sex will cover it. I really like Redeeming Love because it was about building the relationship.
Sara wrote: "Maraz wrote: "most romance books written today contains elaborate descriptions of sex .. personally i think these descriptions devalues true love ans try to replace it with something cheap ,,,any..." I agree Maraz. A lot of the romance books today are really based solely on sex and sexual relations. They don't really build up the relationship and how much it can mean, how deeply that fire can burn WITHOUT sexual relations! A TRUE love story is one like this in Redeeming Love. Michael did not care where Angel had been before him or what she had done or if or when they became intimate...Michael loved Angel's soul. Before he really even knew it

I just re-read them all again I cannot begin to describe how indescribable the feelings I got...again! Re-reading them only makes them better and better!
And I have a found a deep love for the third book as well.
Best series, for sure!
isn't this book a stand alone, what books are in the series you re-read? The scarlet thread and Leota's garden are very good!
Terri wrote: "isn't this book a stand alone, what books are in the series you re-read? The first book in the series is "A Voice in the Wind".
Quite a few of my friends read this and they loved it. Try it out and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Correct on the mark of the lion series and there are two more I am interested in A lineage of grace and sons of encouragement which my sister recommends all... I have the shofar blew on my to read list. I was just confused with the re-reading the series of redeeming love, thought I missed something that would help me out with the book...but I think I just read the post wrong.
thanks for your recommendation!
Maraz wrote: "best love story i have read till now.... can you think of anything better ?"Hi, I just saw ur post...if you haven't read the "Mark of the Lion" series by Francine Rivers, I would definitely recommend all three books.
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons was the most epic love story I've ever read! Can't recommend it enough
Liz wrote: "The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons was the most epic love story I've ever read! Can't recommend it enough"I have that on my To Read list! I'm so glad to hear it's great:) Now I can't wait to read it!!!! Thanks
This is my favorite book, hands down! It got me back into the love of reading in 2007! I have been recommending it and passing it aroundsince!
Bookworm wrote: "Rivers is a very honest writer, she doesn't sugar-coat anything. It's one of the things I most admire about her. She is my favorite author!
All I wanted to do was tuck in my duvet and hide myself from the world while reading this book. I absolutely loved it!
Love in a Broken Vessel by Mesu Andrews is also about Hosea and Gomer. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has loved reading Redeeming Love.
gertt wrote: "Terri wrote: "gertt for my liking it was more than I was comfortable with.....that's fine that your comfort level is different than others. there are people that read Christian fiction that are not..."I agree, that the sexual encounters were very well done.
I would say "the Dreamer:highland treasure #1" by May McGoldrick would be tied with "Kadin" by: B. Smalls! All three book thus far are my tied for the #1 spot for me.
I would say Sea of Tranquility beats this my a very slim margin. I have read some extremely good books, and Sea of Tranquility ranks pretty high up there. But also does Redeeming Love.
There is a book I've read that is called "The measure of a lady" - Deanne GistI would highly suggest it to new christian romance readers!
gertt wrote: "Stacy wrote: "There is a book I've read that is called "The measure of a lady" - Deanne GistI would highly suggest it to new christian romance readers!"

Thanks Gertt!!
My favorite part is how Michael gives Sarah..........so many names with all have meaning. I want that kind of love
I have read many good love stories, but this book is in a class with few others. The Sea of Tranquility , Running Barefoot and Sweet Gum Tree come to mind in this class of beautiful books.

um with you on that,it really devalues true love, what happened to the old true love we knew with no such thing?!!??

IMO intimate details were completely unnecessary.
