11 HOURS! AAAAHHHH I NEED TO KNOW WHO CLARA IS AND I NEED TO SEE RIVER AND THE FIELDS OF TRENZALORE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS JUST
HELP waiting is hard.
HELP waiting is hard.
Yeah, the app can be annoying sometimes!I don't think we'll find out the Name of the Doctor, Clara might, but we won't. At least. We had BETTER not! That would ruin a lot
It would. I'm hoping that every character will find out but we won't. Anyway, how extreme could they make it?
I'm hoping that he'll say that he's had several names, and they're all the names of the actors who have played each Doctor. OR that his name is the Doctor, and that would be the truth (I think) because he IS the Doctor.
No, the Doctor is simply the name he chose. It's something to do with the Gallifreyan Academy or sommat.
I know, he's turned into the Doctor. He just is the Doctor. Any other name he has could still apply to him, but no matter what he still will be the Doctor. I don't know. I just think that could happen.
Ok random thing that just popped into my head when I was watching Eurovision:
Clara has something to do with children. Ok firstly Oswin Oswald was JUNIOR entertainment management officer of the Starship Alaska, Victorian Clara Oswin Oswald was a governess, Clara Oswald looks after Angle and Allie. Clara's very good with kids, we see it in The Snowman, The Rings of Akhaten (shut up phone don't you dare try and auto correct that to KarenGillan), and Nightmare in Silver. Also in the Bells of Saint John prequel the Doctor meets Clara as a child, then we have all these flashbacks in TROA to her childhood. Also all the numbers in "101 Places to see". This could be entirely, utterly crazy and completely stupid but be warned its midnight here and if this makes no sense that's probably why.
Matt cant regenerate he's in the 50th but Steven Moffat hasn't said anything about Series 8 except that Clara - well, Jenna Louise Coleman so that could be anyone really - is in it.
The pictures are cool.
Oh also excited for River!!
If we find out his name (which I don't think we will) I mean - they're not gonna do that. Maybe Clara will remember it from JTTCOTT?

Ooh...! The children thing's a very good point, Athena. Oh, and you must be Australian, 'cos it's midnight where I am too.
I'm a glass case of emotion. I have no idea what to expect. And guise, we're getting a clip of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor after the episode! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Also, Leyah, nice profile pic. I told you the Whoufflepuffs would get you in the end. ;)
It's kind of cute watching everyone all excited and speculating about the next episode and everything.I guess I'm just weird and just only excited about the next episode. I don't speculate about anything and accept things as they come.
Watching people pore over old episodes and pulling out those clues and then trying to interpret them like professors of archaeology piecing together bits and pieces to come up with all this fantastic theories. I wish I could do that. :( My brain isn't wired quite right sadly. I'm always surprised!
Add me to the group of can't waits. I don't know how "cute" I will be by the time it comes on because I am nibbling on good & plenty candies to cope. someone mentioned Clara and the children. Here is something that happened that had me laughing out loud. The other day I saw the tv commercial for GEICO which had the Pillsbury Doughboy laughing and giggling (the punchline was that Geico Customers are about as happy as the Pillsbury Doughboy at a Baking Convention.) I love the Pillsbury Doughboy and wish I could get one and that reminded me of Doctor 10 and the Adipose babies. I love how the babies coo and they are so adorable (someone should make toys like them) I was at the computer and had left the tv running and on came the 10th Doctor Adipose episode! I have to say that was one weird coincidence.
Well???? Has anyone else seen it???Is John Hurt the 12th Doctor? Or was he a previous regeneration and 11 isn't really 11?
As for Clara, makes sense, I guess, and I know I've only watched a few of the Classic Series episodes, but I still got very excited each time we went through all of them...
The acting was great, and Matt Smith couldn't have done it better. It was a big enough finale without being overdone, which I was scared about.
And I am glad we didn't discover his name. Not all his secrets need to be revealed.
My only problem is that I don't feel like we had enough Clara-Doctor time for the chemistry between them to really grow/show before she was willing to sacrifice herself for him.
All in all, the I think the second half of season seven was amazing, and this was a great ending to it all.
Just saw something about John Hurt somewhere that I think makes sense- he was the 'Doctor' during the time of the Time War. That was the Doctor's darkest hour. That is when the Doctor did things he will never forgive himself for. He was between 8 and 9, and apparently we're going to figure out exactly what happened when he comes back for the 50th...
Makes sense. Although I was thinking maybe he would be one of the bad guys. I can see him as playing a dark role, but a "doctor" whom THE doctor can't forgive... The Doctor's "darker" side ... John Hurt would be excellent. I thought I remembered from previous episodes (maybe David Tennant) that the thing the Doctor cannot forgive himself for is that he was off of Galifrey in a Tardis he "borrowed" on a lark when the Time Wars took place and that it is because of his not being there that Galifrey was destroyed.
Didn't he destroy Gallifray and commit genocide both of his people and the Daleks?Ok, three questions:
1. Right in 'The Doctor's Wife' the TARDIS says she stole the Doctor rather than his stealing her? Well, how is that possible if Clara told him which TARDIS to take?
2. I still don't see how Clara was 'born' to save the Doctor. It seems that the original Clara was born, and then split herself up to save the Doctor. But that wasn't the reason she was born, was it? Maybe I'm missing something.
3. Not really a question, but can someone who's seen the 8th Doctor's movie explain how much of the Time War was seen there, etc? Is there room for another regeneration and a guy who did the actual destroying of everything?
oh even more good points. I remember now how the Tardis said she stole him! I wonder if that makes a difference. Could he have destroyed Gallifray and the Daleks through omission by not having "his" Tardis there to help in the war. I keep thinking of that poem that starts "For want of a nail the shoe was lost, for want of a shoe, the horse was lost, etc." leading to that war was lost all because of a horseshoe nail missing. With Matt we have seen more of the Doctor's anger emerge.
Does anyone know is River Song in the final episode? I saw a clip somewhere that showed the Doctor when he was "dying" when River Song shot him. Thinking about that episode ... I will have to re-watch the end of that season. If the Doctor was operating himself as a robot, than why did we see the regeneration light coming from him? If what she killed was not really the Doctor than how could we see the light coming from him.
And I do have one complaint about Season Seven, it seems there is less lighting used in filming. Everything always seems in fog or darkness. It's hard for me to see as it is (not their fault) but this season I have a hard time seeing the background. Particularly in JTTCOTT, when I was trying to note everything Clara was discovering. I really did think it was my vision until I saw a rerun of The Impossible Astronaut and even the inside scenes that were supposed to be gloomy were easier to see. I know ... complain, complain, complain, but, only because I like the Doctor so much and don't want to miss a single detail.
I also had another wild theory, that after the anniversary episode, the new doctor would be Clara! They keep saying that everything about Doctor Who is going to change and what would be more of a change than if the next Doctor was female? Course if they are smart they won't try that because they just might lose some female fans.
I really don't think the Doctor would change gender. Time Lords have genders, no? There are males and females, like in any race. The Doctor should be no exception.
Siareen,
The Time War wasn't mentioned until the 2005 series (reboot) started w/Doctor 9. We have never seen the Time War.

What just happened.
I know I was crying and screaming a bit, and I knew what the storyline was. I am just really, really confused. Is Eleven really Twelve?
It was a brilliant episode, though. Even if we have to wait until November for the next episode.

That was brilliant. I loved it. I have no other words except....................I CAN'T WAIT FOR NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alas, I knew about the character John Hurt would be playing (thanks, doctorwhotv.co.uk ,) but it still sent shivers down my spine. GUISE WE'RE GETTING INFO ON THE TIME WAR.I really don't know what to say, I'm still processing it all.
IF JOHN HURT WAS ACTUALLY THE NINTH DOCTOR THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY OUR NINTH DOCTOR/CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON WAS RATHER MAD A LOT BECAUSE OF THE TIME WAR.
I don't even know anymore. It's past midnight and my life is that confusing emotion called Doctor Who.
I don't even know anymore. It's past midnight and my life is that confusing emotion called Doctor Who.
Doctor Who has turned me into a puddle of emotion on the floor surrounded with blankets, tea and my almost-no-battery phone.
Oh my God...River!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched it online. I found a perfectly working link. Anyways. AH-MAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!There is still SO many unanswered questions.
OH GOD!!!!!!!!
River's goodbye and the whole thing between River and The Doctor had me in tears.
AND THAT ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEAR GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOFFAT IS KILLING US!!!!!!!!!
I'm also really happy with the Clara revelation. I'm just so happy that Moffat pointed out the fact that she may be the Impossible girl but she is still Clara. Just Clara and she is brave and selfless to have done that and saved the Doctor's life so many times.
I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE WAS THE ONE WHO CHOSE THE TARDIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I just say that only Jenna can cry and make it beautiful.
I officially LOVE Vastra and Jenny's relationship and am glad Jenny did not die. THE WHOLE THING WAS JUST PURE GENIUS!!!!! One of Moffats great episodes. And now we know that all the Past Claras were really just echos of Actual Clara.
NOVEMBER. COME QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what I love! Yeah, Clara was the Impossible Girl, but she really was an ordinary girl. She was an ordinary girl who was faced with extraordinary circumstances, and she rose to face them.Yeah, she's my favorite companion now. Definitely. I say that with no hesitation. AND SHE CHOSE THE FRICKING TARDIS, YES!!!!!!!!
Oooh. Good eye, Eris. :) I was actually wondering where that was. This episode really bothered me and I find it difficult to express why. Maybe I'll rewatch it again at a later date and see if I still feel the same way down the line.
Up until this episode, I really liked Clara. I like her very much less now and through no fault of her own. It's just the way they built her up and then this is how they end the mystery. As a convenient worlds-saving tool.
I'm sure many people will disagree with me, but here (as best as I can express it) are the reasons why I am disappointed by this episode. I might end up ranting. Hahaha.
There's an overuse of deus ex machina here. Don't even get me started on the "Oh, evil whatsit just conveniently jumps into the sparkly thing and rewrites everything." (grr)
How to solve it? Oh well, we will just have Clara jump in and fix it. Oh but we want to keep Clara! Okay, fine, we'll throw the Doctor in too.
What...the...
Yes, we have already gone down this route before in countless episodes but the stories were so good that I could just overlook the occasional convenient solution. This episode, though good, was just too over the top! And yes, I'm also taking into account the episode where Tardis just up and towed the earth home (which someone already grumbled about previously, and hey, I get why that scene bothered the poster but I liked the story so much that it didn't bother me.)
I also really dislike this overused tactic of "reinterpreting the past". Can't we just leave the Classics as they were? Why must it be all "the doctors would be absolutely useless if not for Clara"?
I feel like it is disrespectful of all the past work by trying to rewrite it.
Bothers me so much. SO MUCH.
Ok I will stop here. If I let myself go, I could end up writing pages and that might detract from the fact that I still, at the end of it, love Doctor Who and will mostly forgive all transgressions.
What I did like (and managed to ignore the thing about this scene that also bothered me):
River Song and the Doctor. I just loved it. I like pretty much any scene that River appears in but this is one of the scenes had me sniffling into my tissue.
The one where we first meet her (Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead) was an emotional one, but I cried more the second time I watched it because like River, I already knew what had passed and it meant so much more.
I just laughed and laughed at Clara's reaction when the Doctor reveals who she is in such an offhanded manner.
Pamela Su wrote: "Oooh. Good eye, Eris. :) I was actually wondering where that was. This episode really bothered me and I find it difficult to express why. Maybe I'll rewatch it again at a later date and see if I s..."
You make some great points though, the only one I disagree with is "The doctors would be absolutely useless if not for Clara". Technically the reason why Clara jumped in was to redo what GI had done and also because it had already happened (paradoxes are so annoying)
What I'm saying doesn't make much sense but is my opinion, so it probably doesn't make any difference whatsoever. I agree with everything else though. But I still adored this episode a lot.
True. It would be more accurate to say that I just disliked the whole "rewriting the past" in its entirety for this particular episode. There are many bits to this episode that are good. It was just the end that bothered me.
My mistake was watching this episode with a heightened sense of excitement since it's a lead up to the 50th. If I had gone in with my usual way of watching Doctor Who (no expectations whatsoever), I would have gained so much more excitement about this episode, I think.
...No, I lie. I think the end would have still bothered me. Just not to this extent though. :)
I'll re-watch this a few months down the line. That should help me truly enjoy this episode. I always find that going through this show at least twice gives me a new appreciation for each episode.

Wow. Here we are, finally, the last episode of Series 7. The Name of the Doctor. THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR!
