Let's get to know one another! We already know you love books, so please share with us anything else about yourself. Here are some questions to get you started:

*What topics do you read the most?
*Where do you buy your books? Online or at a physical bookstore?
*Besides reading, what are your interests?

I'll go first...

I run BibleDude.net, which started as my personal blog. Eventually it grew into an exciting community of writers who keep the conversations vibrant and fresh. That's why I started publishing as BibleDude Press; there are just too many great writers out there who will never get noticed by traditional publishers. I read mostly Christian non-fiction, but throw in an occasional novel in order to get some good stories in. I'm a Kindle FREAK, so I get most of my books online, but still love hanging out at my favorite Barnes and Noble with a hot chai in my hand. Besides reading, I'm very focused on social media, particularly for important social causes.

What about you?

message 2: by Alia (new)

Alia Joy | 1 comments I read a lot of different genres. I love good memoirs and read a lot of nonfiction books, both Christian and non. I am not a huge fan of sci-fi or fantasy, and I can't stand romance but almost anything else goes. I love real paper books but my house and bookshelves are sadly overrun so I read some on my Kindle as well. I get books wherever I can find them. I love reading to my kids and to see their love of good books grow as their world view and perspectives enlarge.

I love the thing about reading to your kids! My son LOVES to read. And I've even thought about writing a children's book version of The Unlikely Missionary that features a stuffed animal that he's sent with me on mission trips...

Zee (zenichka) I first found out about the BibleDude blog from a friend, Duane Scott. We met online, reading each other blogs at first and then adding each other as friends on Facebook.

I am addicted to reading - if I don't have a book with me when I am somewhere by myself (or with a group of people) I read everything that my eyes see (often I regret reading everything afterwards, since that includes writings on the fences and stuff...)... My top favorite writers are Dean Koontz and Ted Dekker (and by the way Dean Koontz is Ted Dekker's favorite writer)... I cannot decide whom I like more out of those two. I love Harry Potter series and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. I also like Frankenstein... I can talk about books forever, it seems like.

I am Ukrainian, but not a lot of people who meet me believe me at first because I've been told I look like and sound American... Oh well. My family is from Ukraine (Grandma's from Russia) and I lived all my life here.

I blog at www.zenichka.com about random topics, most of the time. One of my strengths is finding connections between various topics so I use it for observing the world and looking for God's hand in creation.

Tom Jamieson (tomjamieson) | 1 comments Hey Dan! Thanks for adding me to the group. I read a lot of non-fiction, especially leadership books. I am a book review blogger for Thomas Nelson, among other publishers. I do read some fiction occasionally, like James Patterson or John Grisham.

I am very active on social media and blogging networks. I write a personal blog at Tom Jamieson and also have other sites as well. I also contribute to WeBlogBetter.com and FuelYourBlogging.com on the topic of blogging.

While I do read ebooks, I still enjoy sitting down with a traditional hard cover as well. I have started writing my first book, but still have a long way to go.

I am a former pastor who has a passion to help others in ministry. I am blessed to be part of a ministry team at PastorHelper.org.

In my spare time, I am pursuing a degree in IT at USF-SM.

Sheila Lagrand (sslagrand) | 2 comments Dan,
Thank you for the invitation!I'm so happy to be here.

I read almost exclusively on my Kindle, as our house is smallish (and we like it that way) and my arthritic thumbs don't like to turn pages anymore. And I can carry my whole library with me, which is a benefit, I find. I read classic fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, history, biography--but not sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or romance. (Well, wait. There was a time when I read Bradbury, and of course I've read LOTR . . . ) At the moment I am working on Don Quixote, the Message, and I'm ready to crack into a nonfiction title but haven't chosen one.

Interests (Let's roll back to last fall, as some health issues since then have greatly slowed my pursuit of my interests): Our little country church has an amazing family and I'm honored to serve as a deacon there. I blog at http://www.godspotting.net/ and every now and then contribute a post at bibledude. I'm working on a book. Slowly. I enjoy cooking for my family and friends (which works out nicely, because my dear husband really likes to eat!). I would spend every moment with my 8-and-counting grandchildren if it weren't for that pesky career of mine and the fact that 3 of them live on Guam. I've recently turned to doodling a bit with colored pencils.

Alene Snodgrass | 1 comments Awesome group! I met Dan after reading Unlikely Missionary and knew I had to connect. Felt part of his story was my story.

I read non-fiction. Love anything that stretches me as a leader and servant. And I have to say -- I love a good story too.

I've tried so hard to be a Kindle girl, but there is something about those paperback books that woo me there. I need to hold them and mark them up -- true love!

I blog at www.positivelyalene.com where I write about stepping over fear to love a messy world. I've written a few books and my latest is coming out in paperback next week. YAY!

Thanks Dan, BibeDude, for your awesomeness.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 1 comments Hello. My name is CJ (Christopher is my first) and I just joined this group.

I would LOVE to start getting books published and want others to know how much Jesus loves them.

I read mostly fiction (though I do enjoy non-fiction and a few books I have I think are great). The genres vary a lot and I grew up in my teens reading young adult (S. E. Hinton) which was the unintentional inspiration for the book I am trying to get out there one day.

I misread. You said "topics." It varies what I like to read about and I am starting to get into reading the newspaper when I get the chance (man, I have been so behind on that. I think everyone should get the goods on the current events happening just in general).

I love to get paper books. There should be times where people should NOT have a screen in front of their faces. I find it kind of affects the mind to be around the screen so much. I don't like to be online for that long so why should I have something like an e-reader in my face when paper is less harmful?

Other hobbies? I love to talk about movies and might even go into school for developing them. I once in a while pick up drawing here and there. Sometimes I play videogames and I only watch some television (I wasted too much of my life on that one to find it much important nowadays! Haha) and like shows like MasterChef and silly fictional ones.

*Besides reading, what are your interests?
Guns, hunting, reading, writing, running, hiking, serving, eating, drinking coffee, experiencing life.

Jody Collins (jodyo70) 5/27/13
Hello Dan and all--this is fun--an online Barnes & Noble with a Starbuck's table in the corner where we can chat.
What topics do I read most?
Old Bible classics--I'm trolling through an old volume about the Song of Solomon, have 'The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life' on my desk, and 'The New Life by Andrew Murray.'
I tend to read only non-fiction--I just ordered Phyllis Theroux's 'Journal Keeper' and purchased Temple Grandin's newest book (I work with children with Autism>.) The Lincoln book is on the endtable in my living room--I got it for Christmas and it will no doubt last me all year.
I'm pretty picky about fiction and don't read any contemporary--Christian or otherwise. But I could maybe be persuaded.....
Besides reading I love gardening and just finished 'Animal Vegetable Miracle' by Barbara Kingsolver and ordered 'Backyard Parables' by Margaret Roach.
And I like to write in my 'free time' (see Sheila's comment above. These dang careers--I'm a teaching asst.)
I serve in a couple of capacities at our Foursquare church and I visit our 5 grandkids (3 hours away) as often as possible.
Thanks for asking :-)

Kris Camealy | 1 comments Hi all, I'm Kris Camealy. I blog at kriscamealy.com and contribute to bible dudes "living the story" column. I also am a contributed to the Allume blog and Hope for the weary mom. I am a stay at home mom to 4 kids, and we homeschool. *whew*. I also serve as an advocate for Compassion International. Last year (2012) I published my first book, Holey, Wholly, Holy: A Lenten Journey of Refinement. I am currently working in a study guide for that book as well as planning a women's retreat for exploring the process of refinement and renewal. I also contributed to the book "Finding Church" and have an essay in the upcoming book, "Soul Bare".

I love to read and am always most content with a book in my hand. I read mostly non-fiction, though I try to add more fiction in every year. I loath romance novels and Amish lit. (Sorry), I am a fan of mystery and stories of redemption. I love books about faith and spiritual journeys in the Christian faith. I'm not a fan of sci-fi, but am currently reading (and enjoying) the book of the Dun Cow which is actually considered sci-fi, but it's not all aliens and spaceships ;)

I look forward to getting to know you all better!

message 15: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (anunboundjourney) Hey there everyone, I’m Lisa. I’m semi-new to this whole blogging thing. I’ve been blogging for a while but only just started taking it seriously last fall… you can find me at foursimplyliving.com. But BOOKS, I am not new to books. I love books…

I joined this group to be in the know of new books coming out. It always seems I’m a day late and a dollar short. I am so excited for this new adventure of Dan’s through BibleDude. And, I am equally excited to see all the new authors and books that come out of such a great undertaking.

What do I read… pretty much anything, but I love a great memoir.

message 17: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Kexel | 1 comments Thank you for the invitation. I've been a fan of SF and mysteries for as long as I can remember and well-written Christian fiction since my college days. I've also been writing for as long as I can remember, getting my start in my elementary school's "literary magazine." I'm something of a dinosaur, without blogs or an online presence, but I do have texts for five picture books, a YA novella, and a few half-finished novels written.
