Susan (mrsfun) | 89 comments This is one of my all-time favorites. I think I'm ready for a reread soon. Would love your comments.

April (booksandwine) | 312 comments I watched the TV show with my mom, but have never read the book, I think my mom has it though. Did you ever see the TV series?

message 3: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I love this book too! I haven't read it in like 10 years so I definitely think that it is time for a re-read.

Laura (apenandzen) Hey I've never heard of it, but I'd love to discover some great Christian lit I can share with my nieces and nephews and others....teens need those positive values and influences now more than ever!

This is a great one. I loved it. Read it in the 7th grade. I don't remember what all happens in it but I do remember that after I read it I really loved it. This is a great one to share with nieces (I'm not sure the nephews will appreciate it).

Laura (apenandzen) YAY we need more books like this!

message 7: by Susan (new)

Susan (mrsfun) | 89 comments Yes, I really enjoyed the TV show as well. The great shows are always cancelled too early. Catherine Marshall also wrote another book I enjoyed that was inspired by Christy that was called Julie. Great author of Christian lit!

Laura (apenandzen) I've never heard of the book or the show, but I've definitely added it! Thanks for letting us know. Susan, if you can think of any other Christian authors, books, or series we should add, please let me know. I'd like to get the word out for those who are so inclined to read the Christian YA stuff. It seems like many of these authors just aren't that well-known.

JG (Introverted Reader) Christy is a great book. Am I correct that it was based on the author or her parent's life? It's probably been 10 or 15 years since I read it, so I'm a little hazy.

A small tangent: My oldest friend (22 years and counting!) was named after Christy. I personally really like the name Fairlight from the book, but that would probably be too hippie-ish for my hubby if we ever get around to having kids.

I think that Christy is her mother... I am not 100% positive, but I am like 97% sure.

Linda Loved the book and the show. Just wish I could get my 15 yo daughter to read books like this.

You will have to let us know what you think of this when you finish it! I love it!!!

Amanda (amandaroby) Wow. I had never heard of this book until I visited this thread. I'm so glad I've had a chance to read it! What a magnificent story. For some reason, I didn't feel emotional when I read this, like I did with Bridge to Tarabethia, or The Book Thief, but I was very attached to the characters. The ending was a little abrupt, and left me with a lot of questions.

I loved the name Fairlight, too. The friendship between Christy and Fairlight reminded me of my adult friendships, and how they have become so much more powerful than any of the "BFFs" I had in school. I'm not sure if that's a part of maturing as an adult, or maturing as a Christian, but this book really made me cherish my friends all the more.

Heather,

It is definitely worth the read. I hope you enjoy it!

Susan (mrsfun) | 89 comments I have held Christy dear to my heart for many years. Now you absolutely must follow it up with the book Julie, based loosely on Catherine Marshall's own life.

message 16: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandaroby) Hm. I may do that. I'll check to see if my library has a copy handy.

Lydia (loverofinformation) | 596 comments I'm not much of a fan of Christian literature. But would someone make a recommendation of this book to me?

JG (Introverted Reader) It's been 10 or 15 years since I read this. I don't remember it as being heavy-handed on the Christian stuff. But I may be completely wrong. It is a great book, I'm a Christian, but I don't read much Christian fiction. Maybe someone else can be more definite about it though.

message 19: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 82 comments It was ok. More a story of a womans life in pioneer time. The woman had strong beliefs but the story was more about her life then her religion. So I think you would like it
