Danielle | 21 comments Got a good chuckle out of this short list from BuzzFeed. Some of the reasons given for challenging these books are mind-bogglingly ridiculous (The last example, in particular, is my favorite).

Shannon (frejafolkvangar) | 34 comments Wow. So much ridiculous, so little time. I'll be sure to share this on my banned book blog.

David (shermanbucky) Really ???? "Too much imagination, might cause confusion". Bridge to Terabithia is one of my all time favorite books. I'm not afraid to admit I still cry when I read it.

Christine (christine007) Yeah, I'm sure kids reading James as the Giant Peach have never heard the word ass. All of these are ridiculous but this one stuck out to me.

The word in the book actually refers to the animal not a body part which makes it that much more ridiculous.

Ashley Marie The ban on Brown Bear cracked me up!

message 7: by Tom (new)

Tom I understand banning the dictionary. That's where we learned all our 'dirty' words in Catholic elementary school!

Banning the dictionary is akin to banning literacy!! This list might be funny, but I am laughing with one eye and crying with the other, if you get my drift.

By the way, even more interesting (and frighteningly eye-opening) are the articles one gets the chance to read if one clicks on the "ban" hyperlinks.

I guess you could call the morons who tried to ban the book asinine (or label them as asses), but that would be an insult to donkeys.
