Clive Hendelson I'm still thinking as to whether I'll read this book or not. Would you recommend this book for me?

message 2: by Teresa (last edited Jun 30, 2013 02:19PM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Teresa If you enjoy the author, go for it. But I heard very poorly of it.

I believe there is a character who dies because he is in Spain... apparently the author mistakes it for a medieval 3rd world country with no hospitals - If you're going to write about a country, you should research it, or you are not an author I deem worth reading.

But again, some readers don't care if an author changes reality to fit in their stories... or is simply ignorant. A young student of mine, who likes reading him, actually laughed at some preposterous scenes (not necessarily in this book, though, I can not make sure which titles by Dan Brown this student told me about).

Maybe other readers who have read the book can give some more information.

BTW, maybe you could share some of your preferences. That can make it easier to see if the book could appeal to you or not.

AJ Best This is my FAVORITE of all of Dan Brown's books!!!!

message 4: by Robert (new)

Robert Clive, I am not as thrilled with it as Aj. In many ways it is different from his other books due to the fact that the "combat" doesn't involve airplanes and top secret weaponry. It is still an excellent book and raises many important ideas especially in light of he recent NSA revelations. So, if you are a fan of the genre and his other books, yes, you should read it. It is a complex and thought provoking read.

Christie I really enjoyed this book. It has a good plot that twists and turns so that whatever you think is real and true at any given time will be turned completely on its head. I thought it was one of Brown's better novels.

Aditya It is a good read though not as good as some of his later ones.As this is not a thriller concerning itself with ancient historical mysteries the situations & plot is a bit different from other Brown books but the writing style is more or less the same.So if you enjoy Brown's other works you will probably enjoy this one.

Vanathi Parthasarathi This is a really good book. A fast paced thriller that won't let you put aside the book. Agreed that this is different from Dan Brown's usual history and mythology related works, but nevertheless, it is a good read!

I think I'll like it if it's not exactly, more or less, like the Robert Langdon series.

What's the best thing about this book?

message 10: by Clive (new) - added it

Clive Hendelson I think I'll read it next month. Thanks for the comments! :))

Shani i loved it! it was exciting & suspenceful

Judie Zabaneh I love Dan Brown books however I felt this was the worst of them all. I believe this may have been his first published book and you can see his improvement since. Just not as captivating as the others.

Vanathi lovely book.i dont want anyone in this world without reading this book

message 14: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Barker It was one of those books that was a bit bland. I can't really remember most of it because it left very little impression.
However if you like his other books and you're after a relaxed and easy read I'd go for it.

Christopher Gibson Loved this book...great page-turner!

message 16: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff Pedersen I read it a few years back I think it was back when the Da Vinci Code movie was coming out. Well, I remember that I really enjoyed it. There were some things I thought were a little off, but overall worth the read.

message 17: by Shan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shan Daniels I would. Dan Brown delivers good suspense with this one. And as usual, you learn something.

message 18: by Tarunkishwor (last edited Jul 30, 2013 09:42AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tarunkishwor Yumnam I would, not because I am a big fan of his but for what it portrays. It's real good. You get to learn so many things. But unlike, Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol, the suspense, although awe-inspiring, was somewhat apparent. All in all you must flip through those suspenses.

Suchi I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and could not stay away from it.

Ellen Actually, I am a big fan of Dan Brown. For some reason this book couldn't keep my attention though. I've started it three separate times but just can't finish it.

Captain Pixel I've, being IT person by trade, found the book a bit amusing couple of times. And no, I do not think it was intentional. As a whole it is not the best book I've ever read. Although I would not go as far as to say it is not book worth reading.

Michael Parker The earlier comment about Spain is right: I live in Spain and when I read Digital Fortress, I was surprised that Dan Brown had not researched this country properly. I can't remember the errors he made because it has been some time since I read the novel. I still think he is a good, thriller writer. I enjoyed this tale but would not give him ten out of ten for research.

Pradeep R Never !!!!

Its so good in the beginning. The whole NSA thing and the super computer part of teh sory is great. But then they kill it by the 3/4 of the book. I hated it. This is my worst 'Dan Brown Book'. Or was it 'The Lost Symbol'. Anyways, do not read this one.

Dia420071501566 no i think its too pornographic

J. Barneck I enjoyed this book. However, I am a high tech guy and a software developer and I had to "ignore" some things that just aren't accurate or even nearly impossible.

Also, I have a very strong ability to suspend my disbelief.

If you can ignore tech issues and suspend your disbelief beyond the average, then read it and it will be great.

If you can't ignore tech issues and suspend your disbelief beyond the average you will be wondering why the main character is even involved (the CIA wouldn't have needed him) and why the motherboards don't have the standard power-off feature if the temperature is too high, and why they didn't just turn the computer off and back on or restore the operating system/software from backup after getting hacked.

So again, very poor from a real-life technical perspective. Very fun if you can actually suspend your disbelief and "ignore" these things.

I did supend that part of me, but such a important person behaving like a baby towards the end of the book and coming to conclusion about the various Passwords was another minus for me. :-(

Linda Rosa I like the Robert Langdon stories a lot better. This book is a quick read where you really have to suspend your sense of reality. Sometimes I am in the mood for that sometimes not.

Marianne Henriksson This was the first Dan Brown book I read and was hooked. I loved it. It's a page-turner, and eye-opening as to what capabilities the military might actually have. I read books for pure entertainment. Even if some scenes are a bit of a stretch when it comes to reality, the story is pure action and suspense. If you are looking for deep psychological insights, characters full of angst, or a moral tale, then it's not for you.

message 29: by Jim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jim Swike I really liked this book, I am always ok even if the sci-fi is not possible. Personally, I always wanted the Star Trek transporter room to become reality, it would shorten commuting time.

Sobia Nawab Clive wrote: "I'm still thinking as to whether I'll read this book or not. Would you recommend this book for me?"

yes it was a good book, better than his new ones

Linda Yes, definitely - It is really hard to put down!

Heaven It is good as a one time read...but do not expect something as exciting or suspenseful as "Angels and Demons"....It starts very strongly but then peters out in latter half...

Moethedog Yes - it's a good read and worth the time.

Dusan Subalee Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: I think it's a great book and if you are orientated towards technology, computer, math(cryptology) then you will surely enjoy it! However that doesn't mean if you are not that you won't be able to comprehend and enjoy the book!

message 35: by Aann (new) - rated it 2 stars

Aann While I sure would but not to IT guy. The book might be sometimes amusing for people that know how this stuff really work.

Ellie I've read all of Dan Brown's Books, Digital Fortress was my first and I really enjoyed it but I have to say his writing isn't consistent. Digital Fortress was okay but Deception Point was better. Da Vinci Code was good but Angels and Demons so much better. Lost Symbol was very enjoyable but the latest, Inferno, was utter garbage. So its like every other book.

Thahsina Yes I totally would, this one of my favourite books all time

Atheena P'karan Hell yes! This is such an intriguing book.

JoBeth Clive wrote: "I'm still thinking as to whether I'll read this book or not. Would you recommend this book for me?"

I've read all of Dan Brown's books and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is a lot of technical jargon but it was interesting. It is an entertaining read.

message 40: by Red (new) - rated it 4 stars

Red Rose well, digital fortress jelas lebih menghibur daripada monalisa's secrets. susan fletcher, david 'something', NSA, cryptograph, mereka jelas lebih 'ringan' daripada illuminati. slain bikin pusing, yo mbarakno ati peteng.

message 41: by Brad (new) - rated it 2 stars

Brad Lyerla I agree. This is probably his best book. That's not saying much because his stuff is ridiculous fluff for the most part.

Clive wrote: "Aj wrote: "This is my FAVORITE of all of Dan Brown's books!!!!"

Chris My favourite of his books, mostly because of the characters quests, riddles and encryptions.

message 43: by Hermi (new) - rated it 1 star

Hermi Visser Yes, he is a good author, it was just a bit much for me....but everyone has their preferences

message 44: by Pete (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pete Hanniford Good read!

message 45: by Cin (new) - rated it 1 star

Cin I couldn't get through it. It was so far-fetched and the characters were not very deep. It read like a bad soap opera with lots of "made up" drama.

Silvana its a good book not as good as the others but it can keep you interested page by page and in the end youll find a surprise i very much like it :D

Kevin Izworski Meh... it's readable, but other Dan Brown works are better.

message 48: by Brian (new) - rated it 1 star

Brian Wilcox It's barely readable. I'm not a fan of Brown's work in general, but this was the worst I've read. The characters were utterly unbelievable and largely unlikable.

Kristin It's an enjoyable read for a Sunday afternoon type of thing. It was fast paced and some times surprising. I liked it well enough.

message 50: by Hermi (new) - rated it 1 star

Hermi Visser I battled to get through all the technical jargon...the ending was frustratingly slow and boring, anyone who has read up a bit on nuclear technology would have found it like....oh come on!
