The Last Wilderness discussion

I'm about a quarter of the way through this book, and so far it's my favorite in the series.

When I first learned that not only Ujurak can shapeshift, but he can also empathize with and understand the animals he transforms into, my first question was, "What would happen if he transformed into a human? What would he see and understand? Would he pity humans, or would he come to hate them? This would be an excellent opportunity to add some social issues and grey morality to the story."

Needless to say, I'm very intrigued at this point.
