Just in case you want to discuss Trumps of Doom in more depth.
These books are all a little shorter than even Corwin's jaunt, so I chose this two thread approach with a non spoiler and spoiler thread.
:)

Angelof Merlin finds himself the target of attempted murder every year. This is definitely so much in keeping with the legacy of Corwin, who has been on the receiving end of several attempts on his life as well.

I actually like the way this book starts compared the Nine Princes because it's more action packed and you have a better idea of what's going on.

Angelof Was anybody worried that the Ghostwheel would give the series a bit of a sci fi feel? I guess I'm one of those picky readers who likes mostly fantasy stories. Once you add spaceships, robots, computers and laser beams into the mix I just don't wanna read it.

Good thing the Ghostwheel still maintained enough fantasy elements to keep me from getting turned off

Angelof Nice to see Merlin has his own trusty weapon. If Corwin had his Grayswandir, Merlin has the interesting cord around his wrist the Frakir.

Good thing!
;)

I never had a problem with a little science fiction....

Just so the science doesn't get too technical.

Frakir!.......
Oh..... to have a secret helper, to wear like jewelry.
:D

In the book's prologue which is NOT included in it for some reason (but can be found separately, for example in Manna from Heaven) it is shown how Frakir came to be.

For some reason I have neglected to read that.

Thank you Evgeny!

I'll be looking for a copy.

Well, my advice is to wait until you finish The Great Book of Amber and then read all Amber short stories including the said prologue. By the way, it took me a while to find Manna from Heaven book.

Oh I love Roger Zelazny.

Did you notice he mentions Apple?
The book came out in 1985...about the time Steve Jobs was kicked out.
Made me wonder...

And I checked out Everett and Wheeler a little too.
Something about "theoretical crap involving space and time."

Which came first the chicken or the egg?

There is an interesting turn of events in this book. The first five books were told from Corwin's POV and all the Courts of Chaos people he met were bad guys (more or less). In here we have a narrator from the Courts who is a good guy and who also freely visits the Courts and Amber and is accepted in both places.

Merlin also is a shapeshifter. The Amber people are more human-like in this respect.

Yes!

I was always disappointed that Merlin didn't use his shapechange ability. Not much anyway...

I think......

I can only recall him doing it once, in this book.

Wow...pretty neat....
Random interrupts a nightmare! He actually gets to tune in on it.
Hmm...the family couldn't hide much from one another.

Oooo.....information!

While talking about Ghostwheel, Random says, "I thought they (trumps) could only be done by a person who had an initiate of either the Pattern or Logrus."
Merlin answers, "the machine itself is of that same class of magical objects as Dad's blade, Grayswandir. I incorporated elements of the Pattern itself into its design."
