Book Description
Publication Date: August 11, 2013
*New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestseller*

I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michels offered to be my light.

I didn't know that time wasn't my ally -- that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer--each moment as it came--but it would never be enough.

Sometimes when you think it's the end, it's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't--I wouldn't ever be the same.

And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own

Discussion Questions:

I'll start the discussion off, but please add topics to this book read, as they come to mind!

Question : Considering Kiersten's past, I'm wondering if I would be able to connect and bond with someone who she may lose(Wes). Do you think her decision to dive into a relationship with Wes is risky, or critical for her heart?

message 16: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Broad (katelynb) I really liked this book, in fact I started and finished it yesterday.
I think that jumping into the relationship, while risky, was something that she almost couldn't help. One of the goals on her list was to get her heart broken but fall in love anyway. Heartbreak hurts but it would hurt even more to live life without trying.

message 17: by Heather (new)

Heather Williams (rucifey) | 67 comments Yeah, it may have been risky, but she didn't know she could lose him like that until after they connected as friends and then as more than friends. I think it would have been harder on her not to stay with him, knowing he could die. Even as just friends - I don't think I could leave someone like that just because I knew I could lose him.

message 18: by Toni (new)

Toni Okay. First off that book made me ball my eyes out! Just had to throw that out there. As far as Kiersten gettin involved w/ Wes being risky, i think its a non issue. She had no idea what his issues were til pretty much the end of the book. If she knew from the beginning she might not have taken the risk. But she was already completely consumed by him once she found out the severity of his situation. Therefore there was no turning back for her. Just my humble opinion.

Carrie (carrieaj) I finished this last week. I enjoyed it solid 3 stars from me. After I read the author notes I changed my mind to a 4 star made me look at the book in a different light.

Kiersten didn't really get the chance to push Wes away. I don't think even if she choose not to pursue the relationship at the beginning. I feel Wes still would have and we would have had the same result.

I completely agree. It sounds like we all share the same view regarding Kiersten's choices. I like your star rating Carrie. I think I would also give it a three star rating, but I want to add a fourth star because the book had the ability to tug at my heartstrings a bit.The perfect October book : )
