The people who won't be using guns will be the first to lose everything they have. But then again, I carry concealed now.
I 'm concerned that if u own a gun the military will confiscate them as soon as disaster strikes just as they did after hurricane Katrina... Maybe instead carry things that you don't need a license for? Such as crossbows, bows, throwing knifes, etc.

That's true, but for the beginning of the end and shortly after is almost all you would need them for, seeing as most of the population would be dead.

I just saw something on Google (so we can't be sure it's true) that says 3 Million people in America are Preppers. That's less than 1 % of the American population
oh and guys I have found a way to get around all of the licensing for guns and stuff all you have to do (this is for an AR-15) is to buy one of the kits that dose not have a lower receiver. Now the thing is that the lower receiver is what is called the "firearm" buy the ATF so if you want one that is completely finished then you need a class 3 and stuff like that but you can get a lower receiver that is only 80% finished and because it is only 80% finished you can buy them without a license because the ATF dose not recognize it as a firearm. The problem is that you need a miller to carve out the holes and stuff in it but in some cases all you need is a Dremel and a drill because some company's they will finish it and fill the holes with wax so that they will become a 80% and they can sell them to anyone and this is all legal because in the law it says that people can build there own assault weapons without a license only if they use it for personal use but if they intend to sell it then you need a Class 3 and a FFL (remember this is only for inside the US) but you also need to make it legal to state regulations like if you live in California (like I do) you need to put on a bullet button and you can only have 10 round magazine.
also if you have reloading equipment a good way to make money is to sell reloaded ammunition and you DO NOT NEED A FFL I would recommend is to talk to your local shooting range (if they sell ammunition) and ask if they would like to buy or ask them to sell it and try and work out a deal like say you get 40% of ammunition sells if people buy yours
also when SHTF you can use ammunition as a bartering tool the only problem is that you have to get primers so if you know how to reload then you should get a LOT primers
I believe firearms are for more than security. Hunting comes to mind. Keeping pests, such as feral hogs, out of your garden or other food source is another reason. As far as ammo goes, most preppers I know have thousands and thousands of rounds. They intend to barter with some, use the rest as they see fit.
I've even met some people who believe, "If I have a weapon and ammo, I can take all the food and water I need from others. There's no need for me to stock up on anything." These folks are why so many keep large stockpiles of firepower.
Well in combat (in Afghanistan) for every Taliban insurgent killed around 10,000 rounds are wasted but it is a really good idea to get a LOT of ammo but I am happy to live in a place where I don't need to go far to get out of a metropolitan area I also know the area really well
Oh and in some states (like California) an assault weapon is an assault weapon if it has a detachable magazine and 2 or more of the following a pistol grip a threaded barrel, a flash suppresser, ect but if it dose not have a detachable magazine then it is just a rifle and dose not need to be registered with the state that's where a bullet buttion comes in because if you add one than you need to use a tool to eject the magazine and is not considered a detachable magazine and when SHTF and when the government collapses you can change it back.
But again guns still need ammo and ammo can be vary limited especially when they stop making more of them

Seriously. Why would I orient my life towards this goal? 'Kill another human being' ...for the sake of my Ford Escort? Or my SUV? Or some other piece of store-bought commercial junk?
