This is one where I read the first book, had problems with the plot, and never picked up books two and three.I am really looking forward to re-reading it with this group because I've found that discussing the "what's right" in a book with you wonderful, well-read people helps me to overlook the "what's wrong" and appreciate it :D.
Reading just one of these books is like reading a third of the way through the bookYour views will just be one sided and shaped only by the blinkered Jorg.
His actions in the books are hard to accept and even after you have read all three, are somewhat brutal.
What I got from the books
Was that we are all shaped by everything that happens in our lives and these things sometimes make us spiral in to self destructive state of mind. Some may cause the the first turns themselves and others are given a push in the right direction.
But when all is said and done we look back at our lives and have to accept the damage we caused. Even if we were pushed.
I live these books..just interested in how people view Makin in the books, I see him as almost a stabling factor in a similar way as Jean is to Locke in gentleman bastards series..anyone agree?
Spoiler alert !!! For Locke No I really don't
Makin goes along with jorg's psychotic behaviour without question most of the time.
Where as jean slaps Locke in to place and shows him what a tit he is being.
I also see a real connection between Locke and Jean.
Where as makin and jorg's connection is no where as strong.
I couldn't see Jorg for one second, giving his life to save makin.
He would taken the antidote for himself without doubt.

I'd have to agree with Deano, we didn't see Jorg trying to save the Nuban (and I got the impression that the Nuban meant more to Jorg, at least conscience-wise, than Makin did).
