I'd like to nominate The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I don't know if you have already read it in the past, I didn't see it in past discussions, if so I apologize and I will provide a new nomination :)

I'd like to nominate Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. Even though The Fault in Our Stars will probably win, I've read it already and I know Alias Grace is one of the lesser known works of Margaret Atwood.

I'll second Alias Grace! Sorry can't link as on phone ap but can come back and link if you need me to
Has any of you guys read The Child Thiefby Brom? I placed that one on hold at my library and would love to give it a read. I'd like to nominate this one. It looks to be a pretty good read and it's a modern take on Peter Pan.

I notice that The Shadow of the Wind was tied for second place in the last poll; may I nominate it again? Thanks.
I'd like to nominate Born Weird which is Andrew Kaufman's most recent book and recently available in paperback. I've read a couple of his other books and quite enjoyed them, especially, All my Friends are Superheroes, so thought I'd give this one a shot. I have the hardest time thinking or newer fiction books to nominate as most of my choices fall into classics or non-fiction. Looking forward to seeing what else gets nominated for December, as I need more ideas!
I'd like to nominate The Stockholm Octavo. It's supposed to be historical fiction, mystery, fantasy. Set in late 18th century Sweden.
Hi everyone! For december I would like to nominate The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, because how can I not with such a title?! Also, it has very good reviews, it's about a group of literature lovers and somehow the cover fits with my idea of december-ish book

I surprised myself by really enjoying this book, so I'm pleased someone has seconded it!! Seemed a bit weird for me to second a book I'd already read.
I third. I read this book about two years ago and also liked it. The things I have yet to learn about WWII boggle my mind. I only recently found out that the Germans had submarines off the coast of New England. Yikes! And speaking of WWII and before, has everyone read Life After Life? Many stars.

Portia, I haven't yet, but it's high up on my list

I love the title! But since it has already been seconded, I'll see if there's something else

We're a pretty "joung" group Briana: we've read just two books for fiction so far: The Light Between Oceans and The House on the Strand. For november we are starting The Thirteenth Tale.
So plenty of space for new and "old" titles!!!

Nice to hear some good feedback on the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! Now I really hope that it will have a chance in the poll!
Here's a link to my review of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in case it helps you decide. I think the book's well worth a read. (My review doesn't have any spoilers.)
ok to sum up so far, we have...The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Alias Graceby Margaret Atwood(seconded)
The Child Thief by Brom
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (seconded)

Wow, what a great list, Shirley. How to choose, how to choose.Today is Election Day for some states today so I'll pass on a joke we all say over here on the day:
Vote early and vote often!
Even though I nominated The Child Thiefby Brom, I'll be getting that book to read next so will happily do it as a readalong for anyone that wants to read it with me. I'll prob be getting it this month when I get the email from the overdrive ebooks library to pick it up. I'm user 1 of 1 on the holds list for it. It looks to be a pretty good read. I'll only have it for two weeks though.
Nominations are now closedPlease vote using the link below, the poll will be open until 13th November.

It's that time again - Fiction Read Nominations for December 2013.
The 'rules' are:
- One nomination per person
- First six 'seconded' nominations will be put in a poll where members can vote on their choice.
- The book should be fiction but should not be a 'classic' novel, as we have a separate bi-monthly classics read.
- The book nominated should be available in paperback form.
This thread will remain open until 6th November or until six seconded nominations are made. The poll will be open from 7th November until 13th November and the winner will be announced on the 14th November.
The Fiction read does not have to tie in to the bi-monthly theme challenge.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on this thread :-)
