Besides The Bone People what are you reading this month?

’m not too sure what I will be reading this month, I think it will include American Dream Machine, Serenade, Harvest, The Narrow Road To The Deep North, Perv: The Sexual Deviant in All of Us and try to make a dent in War and Peace.

Michael Henderson (michael_henderson) | 6 comments I'm reading American Gods. I'm about half way through. The writing is decent, but I'm getting ready for something to happen.

message 3: by Sonali (new)

Sonali V I am reading 'The devotion of Suspect X' by Kiego Higashino.

message 4: by Marcy (new)

Marcy (marshein) I'm struggling thru Middlemarch.

I read a long excerpt today of a new Dave Eggars book--The Circle. It's wonderful! A dystopian future, actually it could be the present. The Circle is a hi-tech company that takes over their workers' lives.

message 5: by Marcy (new)

Marcy (marshein) I am thinking of giving up on Middlemarch and moving on to my next very coveted book: Maddaddam by Margaret Atwood. I read the previous two of the trilogy and waited patiently for this one to come out, and when it did I was in Austenland, and now I'm bogged down ; if I stick with Midmarch it's going to be a long time until I finish adn can move on.

message 6: by Tim (new)

Tim Jackson (timwjackson) | 8 comments I'm about 100 pages into The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet and so far I'm pretty much blown away. The writing is phenomenal.

message 7: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (read_sip_knit) | 9 comments I am reading four books right now.

Wild
Discipline without Shouting and Spanking
The Thirteenth Tale
Bird with a Heart of Mountain

Hi Tim,
I am a newbie to the site and the group.
Could you please tell me how you've managed to have the title underlined and linked to the book?

Welcome Nicole! Above the comment box you should see 'add book/author' (unless you are using the app on your phone in which case you won't see it). Just search for the book title you'd like to link and press 'add'.

message 10: by Sonali (new)

Sonali V I just finished 'The devotion of Suspect X'.I am turning over A S Byatt's 'The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye'.I suppose all booklovers do that, read all the details before actually starting to read the story.

message 11: by B the BookAddict (last edited Nov 08, 2013 11:17AM) (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've just started NW by the irrepressible Zadie Smith.
I have already read her The Autograph Man which was riotous and clever.

I'd keep on going with Middlemarch! It does lull in the middle, but things do get rather interesting, and the end is very good.

I just read Oryx and Crake and absolutely loved it. Margaret Atwood is my favourite author, and I can't wait to read The Year of the Flood and MaddAddam! You'll have to let me know what you think of it!

message 13: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliastrimer) I just got my copy of Diane Setterfield's new book, Bellman & Black: A Ghost Story. Her first novel, The Thirteenth Tale, is one of my favorites. Great feeling to hold a brand new book and relish the adventure that's about to begin! :-)

I loved Zadie Smith's White Teeth. I keep wanting to read another book by her but the usual problem, so many books, so little time...

I'm still reading Middlemarch.

You have to read Year of the Flood, which I just loved, tho now I cant remember the difference between that and Oryx and Crake. Cannot wait to read MaddAdam!

message 16: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) I'm hopefully going to read it over Christmas! I'm super excited, as I really enjoyed Oryx and Crike!

I've just finished The Bell Jar and am completely stuck on what to read. I might try Notes from Underground, to get another Dostoevsky under my belt!

message 17: by Marcy (new)

Marcy (marshein) Oh, I also love Notes from the Underground! It isn't supposed to be funny, but I read it out loud once to a friend when we were on vacation, and we couldn't help cracking up over it.

message 18: by Mish (new)

Mish | 92 comments I'm currently reading The Yearning by Kate Belle and then I'll be starting Goat Mountain by David Vann

message 19: by Kat (new)

Kat (elusivekat) Just finished "Lizard" (Banana Yoshimoto) and "The Cave of the Yellow Dog" (Byambasuren Davaa & Lisa Reisch)... Still deciding what to read next (I do have books that I started to read and have yet to finish... but....)

message 20: by Franky (new)

Franky Currently I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I'm a little tardy reading The Bell Jar, but I plan on getting that one read this month too, along with Mudbound, The Bone People, and 52 Pick Up. We'll see if that actually happens...

message 21: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Langley (dawnrenolangley) | 1 comments Hello, I'm new, but I love the interesting books everyone is reading. I'm currently reading Feverbecause I'm in a course through Coursera on historical fiction. It's been interesting since we've been assigned novels that I wouldn't necessarily have picked up, and now I have a long list of more to read!

message 22: by Lori (new)

Lori (lthomas74) I am currently reading David and Goliath and The Dud Avocado(I am also behind). I need to buckle down so I can complete the Insane Challenge too.

message 23: by Marcy (new)

Marcy (marshein) I just stopped reading Middlemarch at 21%, and as an antidote I'm reading a trashy mystery, Dirty Laundry, mainly bc the title is the same as my blog title. It's kind of a fun read.

message 24: by Pam (new)

Pam | 63 comments Just finished THE MOMENT KEEPER. Also reading MIDWICH CUCKOOS and BELLMAN AND BLACK.

message 25: by Michael (last edited Nov 25, 2013 01:45PM) (new)

Michael Henderson (michael_henderson) | 6 comments Reading "The Goldfinch," by Donna Tartt. Excellent. (I finally finished chocking down "American Gods.")

message 26: by Minna (last edited Nov 26, 2013 04:22AM) (new)

Minna (vesiru) | 40 comments I have been reading up on the books on my literary challenge list. So far I've read Niceville, The Journey to the Center of the Earth and Oscar Wilde and the Candlelight Murders. I've also finished The Great Gatsby outside the challenge.

Right now I'm reading an anthology about body image called Ätstört (Disturbed eating) and Middlesex.

message 28: by Marcy (last edited Nov 27, 2013 09:27AM) (new)

Marcy (marshein) Finished Dirty Laundry in about ten minutes. Now reading
The Sweetest Dream
by Doris Lessing. (a second reading)

For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to list this on my book shelf.

message 29: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Currently reading Threshold by Caitlín R. Kiernan. I have never read this author before and so far am pleasantly surprised.

Avoiding Mr Right for my chick lit challenge book, and The Big Sleep and Other Novels for my first foray into Chandler.

Thanks! I'm only 18 pages in, so we'll see.

Marcy (marshein) I posted quite a few books ago! I'm reading tidbits here and there from various unread books, but just finished The Glimpses of the Moon. After that, not ready to start anything new just yet.
