The Project for Public Space (PPS) publishes a list of The World’s Best and Worst Parks. Here is the 2013 list of the world's best parks (though the URL says it was compiled in 2004) http://www.pps.org/reference/septembe... . They are listed in the same order as on the PPS website with the numbers added by me.
1. Plaza Hidalgo, Mexico City
2. Luxembourg Gardens, Paris
3. Central Park, New York, NY
4. Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY
5. Jardin des Tuileries, Paris
6. Parc Guell, Barcelona
7. Kungsträdgården, Stockholm
8. Palais Royal, Paris
9. Place des Vosges, Paris
10. Boston Public Garden, Boston, MA
11. Parque del Retiro, Madrid
12. Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona
13. Balboa Park, San Diego, CA
14. Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA
15. St James's Park, London
16. Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC
17. Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney
18. Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh
19. Main Beach Park and Heisler Park, Laguna Beach, CA
20. 6th and B Community Garden, New York, NY
21. Paley Park and Greenacre Park, New York, NY
22. Jackson Square, New Orleans, LA
23. Vondelpark, Amsterdam
24. Hong Kong Park, Hong Kong
Just thinking about the town where I grew up, I am surprised that Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden is rated higher than Princes Street Gardens and Holyrood Park (also called the Queen's Park or King's Park depending on the reigning monarch's gender). And does North America REALLY have so many of the world's best public parks?
