there's no real deadline, like even if the month is over you can still use this thread whenever you read it!
If you want to see more, go to www.dianagabaldon.com and read about more. It's the best books I've read and I've read thousands.
I started last night. I am hoping this time I'm not too creeped out by the main love interest sharing a name with my youngest brother.
It's a Scottish accent. I found it wonderful. To get the real effect get the audible books read by Davina Porter after you read.
Not ignorant. It would have hit you after a bit. After you get into the book, you read over the Gaelic and the English and Gaelic begin to look normal. On the FB fan pages some who have read and re-read the entire series begin to think in Gaelic. Dinna fash....you'll love it. Means Don't worry. I'm a real fan. Just in case it doesn't come thru (grinning).
I'm about 15% in. I had hoped to be further along (with this and a few others), but my migraines have been terrible and make reading almost impossible. Boo.
Glad I have not purchased the whole series, as offered by Kobo, I do not like this book, it is loooooong and uninteresting, the adventure is boring. I keep skipping pages that are a repeat of what was written 20 pages ago and so on.
I am surprised you don't like it. it has a huge fan following. on FB there are thousands but we are all different.
Sorry but I was hooked almost from the first page and certainly from when she went up the hill and ..... met Jamie.
I'm an obsessed fan of all of these books so I am not neutral but to me the writing is superb and the storyline is just fantasy enough with the time travel mixed with the true historical information to make all the books intriguing. I love historical fiction and everything about Scotland. Some less daunting books are by Laura Vosika about time travel from today back to 1314 in Scotland. She just published her third book in the Niall/Shawn Campbell trilogy.
Thanks, Lynda. Sadly, mine are chronic & I waiting on disability. I do get to read a lot, most of the time. Linda, Your enthusiasm for these books is one of the reasons we're doing more of the series. I made a new section for them last night to keep discussions going.
I'm just starting part II and find it incredibly boring so far. It just drags on and on and I had to switch to audiobooks so I wouldn't give up on it. I hope it gets better as it goes.

I couldn't stand Follett's Pillars of the Earth but I loved winter of the world and fall of giants and outlander of course.
Hi ladies, I stand by my initial comment that this is a very boring book, as a matter of fact after reading 2/3 of the story, I deleted the book from my ereader, so long Diana Gabaldon.
Sorry to hear that you didn't like it Denise but hope you find a book to your liking. I'm sure you have and will find more. For me once Claire went thru the stones I was hooked.
I've heard that the movie with Judith Dench is spectacular. I'll have to check out the book. Happy reading. The best part of all of these sites is to find other readers.
The movie Philomena was wonderful. Linda, 20 million readers can be wrong. See: Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, etc. :p
I think I am going to give up on Outlander for the time being. It's too long to be wasting my time on it when I could be reading a book I actually enjoy.

But I liked those books. The movies of a Twilight and I'll see 50 Shades but I can't imagine a movie doing it Justice. I just finished the third book in a series by Laura Vosika about time travel and Scotland. Seems to be a theme.
Lynda, I hope you like the Outlander as much as I did.I did buy Philomena after the above discussion. we'll see how it goes.
Finally finished last night! Not the fault of the book - more my chaotic life. I was annoyed by the same things as the first time I read the book -- the captain and babies being the embodiment of love and the reason for life.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life...and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
