OkayVelveteen waited by the gate with all the other monsters. In five minutes, the gates would open, and everyone would go out to scare the humans. She bit her porcelain lip a little and searched the crowd for Xavier.
Velveteen looked up at him and frowned a little. "I'm down here. I'm not gonna be up there. I'm only six inches tall."
She nodded and took out her kid sized kitchen knife. "Yep! I'm all set." She squealed in excitement as the gate began to open.
She hopped down from his shoulder and quickly walked out with the other monsters. She looked around and smiled.
She smiled up at him. "Let's meet back here in awhile. My mom said I needed to scare at least one kid this Halloween."
She laughed a little. "Are you sure? The way I scare kids is kind of boring. It involves a lot of sitting around and waiting."
She giggled. "Alright, but you'll have to let me go on my own once." She put her knife in her pocket.
She sat beside him and saw a group of small children coming. A pirate, a princess, and a dinosaur. "Alright, we got some kiddies." She sat still, emotionless.
The princess approached Velveteen as the dinosaur and the pirate examined Xavier. "She's scary looking," said the princess.
The dinosaur backed up a little. "Guys...the clown is smiling!" The princess tried to step away, but she felt a tiny hand grab her pinky. She looked down at Velveteen, who was looking up at her. She said in a small, demonic voice, "Do you like my pretty face?" The princess screamed and tried to get Velveteen to let go.
The dinosaur screamed and squirmed around in Xavier's lap. "Please! Don't hurt me!" he screamed. The pirate stood there, crying in fear. The princess was still struggling to get Velveteen off of her. Suddenly, the princess flung her arm back, sending Velveteen flying. She landed on the cement sidewalk, a small part of her porcelain face breaking off.
She winced a little and pushed the broken piece back into place. It slowly healed and she smiled up at him. "I'm alright. But they're not," she said as she watched the kids run away in terror.
Velveteen placed her tiny hand on Xavier's arm. "Don't. It's not worth it. Besides, you know we're not supposed to kill children."
She hugged him back a little and noticed a teenage girl sitting on a bench nearby. She seemed to be dressed as a witch, but she didn't have the pointy hat. "Look, a teenager."
The girl looked up at him, examining him. "You must be dressed as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. That was a good movie..."She looked back down at her hands.
She looked back up at him and smiled a little. "Nice..."Velveteen hopped down from Xavier's shoulder and onto the girl's lap.
The girl looked at Velveteen, then up at Xavier. Her face then grew worried as they heard a group of girls approaching.
The group noticed the girl and immediately walked up to her. "Hey freak! Whatcha got there? A doll?," said one girl. Another laughed and said, "So, does the little freak like little dollies too?" The girl bowed her head and didn't say anything.
The girls turned around and they squealed. "Oh my God! That's so creepy! I'm out of here!" At the moment, she felt a blade being pressed against her leg. She looked down. Velveteen had her knife against the girl. "Leaving so soon?" The girls screamed and ran away.
She squealed a little and jumped onto his shoulder. "Come on, lets go!" The girl stared at them, confused.
She bit her lip and shook her head. "I really don't know...I guess we wait for the sun to come up, then we'll figure out what to do."
When they arrived back at the park, the girl was there, but she was starting to leave. "Hey! Wait a minute!" Velveteen called out. The girl turned her head and stared at them.
The girl slowly approached them. "Why do you need help...?" Velveteen looked up at her with sad eyes. "We're trapped here. The gates of our town closed, and now we can't go back until next Halloween. When the sun rises, we'll be human, but we don't anything about being human."
Velveteen put her tiny hand on Xavier's shoulder to comfort him. The girl was silent for a moment before saying, "Alright, I'll help you. You can stay at my house. My parents won't care." She brushed her hair out of her eyes and held out her hand. "I'm Eve, by the way."
Velveteen smiled slightly. "Well...thank you Eve. Oh, I'm Velveteen and this is my friend Xavier." Eve nodded and sighed a little. "Well, we should probably get going."
"It's fine. You'll get used to living here pretty quickly," Eve replied as she began to walk down a path. "Follow me."
Velveteen hugged him back and hummed a small tune that she thought Xavier would like. Eve led them out of the park, and onto the main sidewalk. A few cars passed now and then. An adult walked by and said as he was passing, "Halloween is over kids. Better get home where it's safe."
Velveteen hugged him a little tighter. "It's alright Xavier. I think we can trust her." Soon, Eve led them to a nice house. She opened the door and let them step inside first. "This is my house," she said quietly.
Eve smiled slightly. "It's no problem..." She bit her lip slightly. "Um...thanks, for helping me out earlier."
She nodded. "Everyone at school does. I guess I should be used to it by now, but it hurts..." She sighed a little and untied the cape she was wearing and folded it in her arms. She walked up the stairs to her room. "I'll be right back..."
Velveteen sighed and looked at him. "We can't kill them...but I'm sure there is a way to make them suffer."
She smiled up at him. "It's alright Xavier. I don't blame you. We've never been trapped here before."
She placed her hand on his arm. "It's alright...Eve will show us how things work." Soon, Eve came back downstairs. She had changed into her pajamas. "Well, are you guys tired?" she asked.
Velveteen nodded a bit. "Yeah, I'm pretty tired too." Eve gestured towards the stairs. "We have a couple guest bedrooms up there."
