I am not even sure how this book ended up on my radar, but I am sure glad that it did. There is a blurb on the book that labels this as John Grisham meets Buffy, and that is just what this book is. Part of it reads like a Grisham books, but it is filled with vamps and werewolves, which adds for some excitement among all the petty lawyer politics.

It is hard not to like Linnet, she is surprising down to earth, seems to know just where her place is in this world and is ok with it. Her being raised partially by vamps seems to help with her acceptance and knowing how to maneuver within her White Fang law firm. Sometimes when reading it is hard to believe the prejudices that she runs into, but they make sense. I love how she tends to call people out on their bullshit, sometimes doing it even making herself look like a schmuck in the process, but it is part of her charm.

I loved how Linnet didn't intend to keep digging, but the more things kept going crazy around her she couldn't/wouldn't stop. She learned a lot about herself along the way, shutting up all the naysayers around her in the process.

The ending was good and frustrating. Good in that she was able to resolve what she started out to do, but frustrating because along the way there were casualties, ones that were sacrificed for the big picture. Some of those scarified are done, nothing to be done about that, but others, well...guess the next book will tell us that. I can't wait to get my hands one it.

I am glad that this one lived up to how much I liked the first book. I like Linnet, love the way that her mind works. She managed to take a seemingly mundane case and blow things apart within their world for both humans and the Powers alike. At times it didn't seem like the steps Linnet took made sense or that the help was much help. I did like how Linnet learned new things about the Alfar.

The people that ended up helping Linnet were fun, a motley crew that I hope we see in future books. I am intrigued by a few things, David's changing thoughts, and what is going on with the horse and it's owner. I have a feeling that the later will change things.

I just got this one from the library the other day. I'm going to have to finish Brockmann so I can get to it.

Okay, so it's not a 5 star read, but it was a lot of fun. I went and requested book 2 from the library right after finishing the story. I'm curious to see what happens with the Alfar.

I'm so use to reading about good werewolves. It's a little odd to read about the beast-like movie kind.

I totally figured out the bad person in book 2 pretty quickly. Still enjoyed it, anyway.

Erika (readingbutterfly) | 67 comments I just finished This Case is Gonna Kill Me and I must say it was better than I originally thought it was going to be. I struggled through the first two chapters, but it picked up quickly after that. I loved the story for the most part...I am still trying to figure the whole purpose of the Ryan situation.

BTW I am looking forward to book #2

Tya | 846 comments I think I took to long to read this book. Every time I picked it up, I had completely forgotten every single thing that happened before. I couldn't keep John and David separated for anything. I still have no idea what an Alfar is, and how he differs from a vampire (and I kept calling them Alfalfa) and when Linnet had her big eiphany that she was in love I was wait...with who? When? How? Wha?

Maybe I was reading too many books with vampires that weren't really vampires at the same time?

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Could be.
