After seeing Twilight the movie...I feel that it didn't do the novel justice. I thought that they could have done a much better job. However, I think that they will do New Moon justice since they have more money to work with...

message 2: by new_user (new)

new_user Novel. I probably would have enjoyed the movie more if I hadn't read the novels first. It was basically the novel's dialogue put to images. There was nothing new or interesting about the screen adaptation for me. In fact, it felt awkward.

message 3: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I totally agree with you on the awkward comment. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was just off. The movie had to follow the book or fans would have freaked out, so it wasn't too exciting to see it on screen. I was never impressed by the actor choices either. I'll still see New Moon of course, but this is definitely a series where the book is better, for me.

message 4: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz "Twilight" was a terrible movie I thought. It was sooooo disjointed --maybe if you haven't read the book you don't get that feeling. The only movies I've liked from books I've read are the Harry Potter ones.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I was very disappointed in the movie. There was no way they could do the book justice in such a short amount of time.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments Well it looks like I'm in the minority here, but I actually enjoyed the movie. I definitely liked the book better, but considering how little money they had to work with and that they had to condense it down into only two hours, I thought they did a respectable job.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I agree, with what they had to work with they did a great job, I just prefer the book more.

Hmmmm...I hated that they chose Kristen Stewart for Bella's role. I think that they could have made a better choice. She made the film feel off kilter. Although, that could be because I am not a Kristen Stewart fan...

message 9: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 452 comments The novel hands down. I hope New Moon turns out better.

message 10: by Ida Suyanto (new)

Ida Suyanto | 21 comments I prefer the novel. The charmed is still on me, even though I read it few months ago.
I don't get the exitement from the movie. It's just the catwalk of the Cullens.

message 11: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 37 comments I like both but tend to separate them in my head (the film isn't based on the book, all the characters just happen to have the same names).

message 12: by Chasidy (new)

Chasidy I love the books and when I watched the movie for the first time I was very dissapointed. Then when I bought the DVD and watched it again, I actually stopped to enjoy the movie rather than comparing it to the book. I still think the books are better but maybe New Moon will be different.

Did anyone watch the deleted scenes?
Do you think that they should have kept them in the movie?

I personally think that they should have. After watching the deleted scenes I thought that they added something extra. I also thought Bella was MUCH better in the deleted scenes!

Your not alone Julie, I could have written your post.

message 15: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments Good to know Teryl.:-)

Joy, I watched all the deleted scenes, and I was somewhat disappointed to see that most of them were the sensuous ones. I have no idea why those were the only ones that seemed to get the axe. I think it would have given the movie a little more zing and a more romantic feel if they had left at least a couple of them in the movie.

That's exactly how I feel! I loved some of the deleted scenes. If they would have kept them it would have enhanced the chemistry between Edward and Bella. Unfortunately, the director didn't feel that way. :( Luckily, New moon is supposed to have a different director who will hopefully include a little sensuality...

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I really enjoyed the movie. Had I not watched it, it would have taken me longer to commit to reading the books, although my sister is a diehard Twilight fan, so hearing her go on would have got me interested. I didn't have any problems with the movie. I saw a trailer for New Moon and I'm worried the wolves will look campy with the animation. I hope not.

message 18: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) I liked the Twilight movie better than the book simply because there was humor in the movie and Charlie's character was a little more developed. LOVED it when he kept giving Bella pepper spray and was cleaning his gun when Edward came to meet him!

I'm off to check out the deleted scenes. Sounds interesting!

★Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ Sheba Tong Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ★ (shebatong) | 0 comments I liked the movie and the book but I thought the movie could have been so much better. I think the second movie will be better because they have a different director now.

message 20: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) And a bigger budget to work with!

message 21: by Lizz (new)

Lizz | 8 comments the novel definately, i hated the movie.... really disappointed...hopefully new moon is better. the book just gave you a deeper insight into the characters and their personalities. and after reading the book you have a certain image in your head about how things are and look...for instance in the movie when they did that sparkley thing for when edward stands in the sun it didnt even look like anything i was expecting something on a grander scale...oh well i still LOVE twilight:)

message 22: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) I perfer the novel to the movie. I think if I had watched the movie then read the book it may have been different, but I doubt it.
The thing that annoyed me was that nothing really happened in the movie when it came to their relationship! Thats what most of the book focus on; being able to get their relationship to work.
And they missed my favourite parts from the book! *sniff* *sniff*
-I dont like Kristen Stewart as bella.
I think if they had allowed the movie to be longer than it would have been better. I cant wait for New Moon, praying that the director is better and they do a better job! [no offense Hardwick:].

message 23: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I agree that I prefer the books to the movies. (I generally do) What really drove me crazy is that in Eclipse they really chenged things up. In the book, Edward was willing (he may not have liked it) to work w/ Jacob if it meant keeping Bella safe. The movie totally made him look like a spoiled child. And Jacob, in my opinion was made to seem very obnoxious and arrogant. In the book they clearly weren't "friends", but they came together for a purpose. I was really annoyed w/ how they changed them to make more drama!

message 24: by Skena (new)

Skena Megahed | 286 comments when I first saw the movie I was sooooooo disappointed in it . it's wasn't nearly as good as the books . Kristen Stewart played Bella very badly I think , they marginalized the role of some characters like Jasper,Alice&Emmet. and there are many points that weren't so clear to the viewer who hadn't read the books . I watched the movies with 2 of my relatives who hadn't read the books & we paused many times to explain to them things I got from the novel.
after all , I have to say that I like to watch the movies every now and then JUST because it reminds me with the novels

message 25: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 441 comments i love books better. I see a character in my mind.

message 26: by Jade (new)

Jade (miss_jade) I thought the casting was horrible in the twilight movies. None of them are very interesting. Kristin Stewart is too boring and bland to play cute, clumsy Bella from the book and I don't find Rob attractive at all. I was disappointed in the movies.

message 27: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (the_constant_reader) I thought the film was okay but nothing compared to the novel. So far, that goes for the entire series. :)

message 28: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I thought tbe book was awful and the movie was awfuller. I was predisposed to dislike the movie, though.

What horribly bad acting. And to think I'd liked Rob Pattinson in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

That's right! Cedric Diggory died and became a vampire! I'd almost forgotten that! lol

message 30: by Eugene (new)

Eugene Jr. (eugenenelsonjr) | 6 comments Hi everyone! I actually prefer the Novel to the Movie. Most of the time they cut out or change so much that was in the original novel. I believe that the novel gives you a better and more complete picture of what the writer is trying to convey. The movies bring a new and deeper dimension to the work, but loses a few things in translation. Cheers! :-)

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Definitely the books...i could barely sit through the second movie!

message 32: by Robin (new)

Robin (auntrobin) | 10 comments Actually the movie made me want to read the novel. I like them both just in different ways. But books will always be my first choice over any movie.

message 33: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (bookfairy76) I read the Twilight novel before seeing the movie and movies usually do not live up to the book in my personal opinion. I did however enjoy the movie, just not to the extent that I enjoyed the book.

message 34: by Kari (new)

Kari (kariregan) I most definitely prefer the novels over the movies, because I thought most of the movies were awkward and cheesy. And Joy, totally agree with you, Kristen Stewart was probably THE worst choice for Bella. I think the most recent movie was the best though, and it looks like she may have taken acting classes because the further they get thematically with the movies, the better the movies are. When my friend and I found out the actors cast for Twilight, we were basically having a fit lol. I think because we pictured Edward to be completely different (although he has filled the role wonderfully I think), and Kristen Stewart was a crap actress to begin with... I am expecting the last book (the 2 movies) to either be a complete failure or the icing on the cake.

message 35: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 266 comments I'm usually one of those ppl that reads the book after the movie just because a lot of the times, so much is cut from the book to make the movie... I didn't read the books until around this time last year, and I have to say that I liked the books SO MUCH BETTER than the movies. The movies are "ok", but don't totally bowl me over. The last movie was better than the previous one, and hopefully the next movie will be better than this last one... but this is one instance that I do love the books so much more than the movies :)

Did you ever see "Vampire's Suck"? They make fun of Twilight, but the guy in it who plays Edward... I thought he would have made an amazing Edward for the real Twilight movies... Just a thought... lol

message 37: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I watched the movies first and enjoyed them all. I then ordered all the books to read. I have to say I enjoyed the books more and it helped me understand the story and the characters better as I felt the film didn't always explain things very well and left me confused about what was happening at times.

message 38: by Nada (new)

Nada Al-Karmi (nadooush) the books are much better than the movies. there are more details & the characters seem more real. in the movies, Bella was really cold & emotionless not like the one in the books.

message 39: by Dianne (new)

Dianne (dmbr) | 7 comments I love the Twilight books...but some of the movies are not like the book. I think the books let you form your own story and are way better than the movies. I still plan on watching the rest coming out soon. My vote is for the books. They let you get a real feel for the characters and their feelings.

message 40: by Dani (new)

Dani (dani_duda25) | 37 comments The movies don´t do the novels justice but i feel i would like the movies more as well if they had someone who could actually act play bella

message 41: by Nada (new)

Nada Al-Karmi (nadooush) thank you.....i mean Kristen Stewart really sucks in playing Bella. she's so frigid & cold. she annoys the hell out of me.

I agree! No matter how great the actor is they can't compete with my "sweet little imagination." (I love me some Paul Simon. :)

message 44: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (tcornelsen) | 20 comments Gotta a related question for the Dune series readers....
The first book, Dune, was made into a movie with Kyle Maclachlan, and later made into a tv movie in 2000. Which do you prefer? I prefer the tv version from 2000. Though Sting was pretty sweet in the movie version!!!

Scarlett Rains | 21 comments Elomari wrote: "I was lucky to watch the movie first, and then read the book. I Loved the movie. If I would have read the book first, I would have been very disappointed, like someone else said here. Though I wish..."

I do a little of both. But, I usually will buy tickets quicker for a movie if I've read the book. I certainly have watched my share of disappointing films that fell WAY short of my imagination.

message 46: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (winterslacker) | 13 comments The novel doesn't have to exclude anything, and can be as long as the author wants it to be. In my opinion, always the novel; but I will go see the movie afterwards sometimes.

message 47: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Matos | 1 comments Definitely the novel. Better character development and better relationship development between Bella and Edward. And I thought some of the dialogue in the movie was kind of cheesy.

message 48: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 170 comments The Novel. Tho, I don't mind seeing my favorite novel turned into a "good" movie. But normally, not the other way round.

message 49: by Liz (new)

Liz (hissheep) always ... the novel first! Why? I have a better imagination.

message 50: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Cottrill | 47 comments I enjoyed the novels. I think the movies are kinda cheesey. I read the Twilight series years ago when the first was published.
