I recently moved to New Delhi,a md would be happy to help. The problem is finding a regular channel of people flying to Dhaka with whom to send it...
Shihab wrote: "I recently moved to New Delhi,a md would be happy to help. i am really frustrated about the whole thing! D:
You probably won't be able to find a bookstore to deliver. But, I can buy them for you and send them to Dhaka...but the sending them to Dhaka part is the toughest bit!I do travel home once in a while and carry a few - but most of my trips are for very short durations, so I generally only carry a carry on.
Sinny wrote: "Can't you buy them online, like from ebay or Amazon?"no :( amazon and ebay dont ship to Bangladesh :/
Sajid wrote: no :( amazon and ebay dont ship to Bangladesh :/"Ohh I didn't know :O! That's really unfortunate:( I donno what I'd do without access to books. Hope you find a way! You could try asking a trustworthy friend who lives abroad to buy and send you some books?
I don't live in Bangladesh anymore, but I used to do a book swap with some friends. I know lots of people like to keep their books, so this might not be very useful for you. Worked for me on a tight budget and in constant need of reading material!
Hey guys!
You can order books?! I DID NOT KNOW THAT!
I usually download books, which is a bad thing, because those writers don't profit from them like they should.
Can anyone tell me how? I live in Uttara, Dhaka, btw. Bye, BookLoversfromBangladesh! Lol, dunno anymore nicknames.

In case you don't find a way, you can always email the publishing house asking if they could ship to your country, providing them with necessary details. You can use the Help or Contact page of a publishing house site to reach them. It's costly and time consuming though. Even if they agree to send you copies, sometimes they might ask you to send a self addressed envelope or something like that first.International shipping in here is a beast:p
p.s you can try participating in giveaways, they've worked out pretty well for me:)
I have some folks traveling back on Sunday from Delhi. Am happy to take a few orders (let's say 10 paperbacks) for now - you can pay into my Dhaka Standard Chartered account directly, and I can buy them off of Flipkart.
Through this website you can buy any book from amazon/ebay but shipping price will be high.I am looking forward to buy some books.http://www.sendcargo.co.uk

some of u may know it but there is a group in facebook named amazon.com.bd . u can buy books from indian flipkart.com and they will bring it for u. just additional shipping price. 600 taka per kg. its a great service and i used it. Sajid is using it too. Hope u guys will find what u need. :)
Salman wrote: "some of u may know it but there is a group in facebook named amazon.com.bd . u can buy books from indian flipkart.com and they will bring it for u. just additional shipping price. 600 taka per kg. ..."yeah I ordered like 7 books through them, but im not sure how reliable they are, will give confirmation only after getting my shipments delivered! I placed my orders on the 8th of January, and they've told me it will arrive at at the end of the month so fingers crossed!
I've used their services for buying books and other stuff from US and India. Very reliable. Bit expensive though.
Rajiv wrote: "I've used their services for buying books and other stuff from US and India. Very reliable. Bit expensive though."But i guess its worth it though considering I can never get these books in BD. for instance The Book Thief paper back at Bookweb is 1200tk. But through flipkart the total cost of getting the book is around 800tk!
also there are loads of discounts at flipkart! like John Green's looking for alaska is 40% off now only at 170RS !! so yeah :D
Rajiv wrote: "I got House of Leaves. It's a huge and heavy book. The shipping alone cost me 1400 :("ya i guess that will be a problem! i was thinking of ordering Les Miserables but then i saw the size of the book and it was like a BRICK! :D how long did they take to deliver your books??
Rajiv wrote: "From US was about a month. India was much quicker. I think about 9-10 days."Really 10 days?? they told me 3 weeks! I guess i will start bugging them from the 10th day ! :D
Just to confirm: I got my ordered books yesterday!!!!so yeah I guess finally found an elegant solution to get any book I like from anywhere in the planet!!!!!! :D :D :D

That's grea..."
The organisation through which i brought the books, their rate is like this:
1 RUPEE = 1.6 taka and 0.6taka per 1 gram shipping cost.
so, for example the price of Looking for Alaska by John Green is 172Rupess in amazon.in or flipkart.
So 172*1.6= 275.2taka. the weight of the book is 220grams. so 220*0.6=132taka is shipping cost. so total cost for the book is (275.2+132)= 406taka.
I think that's a really reasonable price for an original book which you just CANNOT find in Bangladesh.
Moreover, in Book-web Newmarket, they sell the paperback edition of The Book Thief for 1200/= taka. But if you order it from India you cant get it in like 600tk. so get my point? :)
I ordered 7 books(The whole John Green collection, Wonder and 1984) which cost me 3100. which means apprx 450taka per book. Original books which I could never get in BD. So, I'm quite satisfied with that :)

How?!"
there is a group called amazon.co.bd in facebook. Through them you can bring any books from anywhere. You can find almost any book (I haven't failed yet :D ) at www.flipkart.com or www.amazon.in with reasonable price. they have 10%-20% or even 40% discounts for many books!
Rajiv wrote: "I bought a bunch of books from Amazon US using this guy. Brilliant service."Ya they are really reliable... planning to order my next batch of books next week! :D

Do you have a working link of that group? Thanks in advance.
Apparently his old group was taken down by Facebook (don't know the reason). Here's the new group link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/shopr/

Okay sorry to interfere, but there is a new page in fb named amar bazaar. If u r willing to buy the books from india u can contact with them. Its better than the group cz no shipping charge!! Me and sajid(thnx to him) both used it :)
yup that is the page. It's a new page and the admin's name is Badhon, a really nice guy and have imported loads of books through him... perfectly reliable...
Thanks a lot for this thread. I recently brought some books from India through Amar Bazaar . This group technically delivered the books at my door step which is not a common thing for any other groups who import things for people as far as I'm concerned. I'm very happy to find such a relaxing solution to find my books. I heard about them in this thread first. So all credit goes to you guys!! Cheers!

There is this new service called BackPack which can get you products directly from any website in US. I usually use ThriftBooks.com to buy used books. Usually, The books are really really cheap & in great condition.
Backpack charges 15-21% on top of total cost & their exchange rate is 1 USD = 78.5 taka. They don't charge you any shipping cost from US to BD.
To get 500 taka backpack credit, click the below link: (I'll get 500 too)
https://backpackbang.com/r/1000006605
You can order books from Go Bookish, which is a Facebook page. They also deliver the books to your home. A bit expensive but still better than nothing.:)

Brother,I use backpack myself. But so far I've been unable to bring books from thriftbooks, com due to their more than 7 days delivery policy via backpack. How are you bringing the books?
Has anyone used Amar Bazar to ship books from India recently? Can you give me some feedback on their service? Like how much do they charge for a rupee and the shipping cost and such?
Tanjib wrote: "Brother,I use backpack myself. But so far I've been unable to bring books from thriftbooks, com due to their more than 7 days delivery policy via backpack. How are you bringing the books?."Yes.. you are right. They blocked bringing books from Thriftbooks due to your mentioned issue. Right now looking for alternatives to bring books from USA. betterworldbooks might be a good alternative. Meanwhile, using AmarBazar to bring books from India, they also doesn't have any freight charge, you pay 2tk/rupee.
Nafis wrote: "Has anyone used Amar Bazar to ship books from India recently? Can you give me some feedback on their service? If your ordered books arrives at Kolkata in due time, you'll receive your books in due time. I ordered 7 books from Amazon India through AmarBazar, I received 5 of them within 15 days , rest of two didn't reach Kolkata yet.
Fahim wrote: "Tanjib wrote: "Brother,I use backpack myself. But so far I've been unable to bring books from thriftbooks, com due to their more than 7 days delivery policy via backpack. How are you bringing the book..."Thanks.You can use abebooks.com.I have ordered books from it through backpack last week.
Books mentioned in this topic
Looking for Alaska (other topics)Wonder (other topics)
1984 (other topics)

Okay, so I know that we have couple of really good bookstores in our country which brings original editions of foreign books, like PBS, Book-web(new market)and Bookworm. But still there are loads of books which I want to read but they never bring those books. For example John Green books like Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns etc.
I know you can always read ebooks but it's just NOT the same as reading the ACTUAL BOOK! the smell of the pages, actually holding the book and all...! im sure you get that!
So is there any elegant solution to this problem? is there any organisation out there through which i can order these books? or is there anyway i can buy those books from amazon or flipcart or ebay and get the shipments in BD?
If you guys have any ideas or know anything about this please let me know!
Pretty desperate for more books :/
