Hey, guys, did you know...

I live beside Nilkhet almost all my life (Dhaka University Campus), and almost ALL of my books were bought from Nilkhet and Newmarket... All kinds of books, I have 1500+ English original books in secondhand copies bought from Nilkhet's "Magazine Goli" (the largest secondhand english book selling area in our country), more than 1300 books of Sheba Prokashoni bought as second hand from Nilkhet and as brand new from New Market, and over 600 Bangladeshi+Indian Bangla books bought from various stores of New Market and Nilkhet. So yeah, for every kinds of books, Nilkhet & New Market is awesome!! Although if you want to buy Brand new English original books, there are not many options, New Market has Book Web and Jinat Book Suppy who brought some new books every now and then, and previously there was ETC in Dhanmondi & Uttara (which doesn't exist anymore), PBS in Shantinogor (a BAD bookstore in my opinion, collection is poor, and the prices are easily the hightest in Dhaka!), Words n' Pages in Gulshan-1 (don't know if it still there or not).... So unfortunately for most of the English books I have to depend of secondhand books from Nilkhet. And you CAN find almost any English books if you are lucky, I even bought 2012 published The Affair by Lee Child from Nilkhet as secondhand book in 2012 (!). So you never know... :P
Most of my collection was from nilkhet back in the good old days. The main problem is that the supply of books is quite erratic. The booksellers would buy books stock lot from people who were done with them. I think the best way (at least back then) was to find one bookseller, and then tell him to get in touch when he had a new stock.

New Market? *gasp* Did NOT know that!

Nilkhet is probably the best place for old books......there are two other places one is Purna Paltan another one is Banglabazar......I spent days (good old days!!)in Nilkhet and Paltan......there were some sellers who used to give books to me even if I did not have money as they knew I would come back in a day or two to replay...Most of my collection is from there specially the Russian literature. But now I have moved to Kindle as finding ebooks are much easier and storing them is also easy....actually I ran out of space in my place ......for example I have recently found all Pulitzer prize won books from 1918 to 2011 in one collection.....and its just 75mb

Magazine Goli is in the backside of Nilkhet market, if you go using the street inbetween Rafin Plaza and Nilkhet market, the street is perpendicular to the Mirpur road, going a bit farther inside you'll see various stores on both side of street that have many magazines hanging and have many old English novels. You can ask them about the direction of Magazine Goli as every body knows about that, and the Goli is at the right hand side of yours, that have half a dozen stores with thousands of second hand English books. But be careful while you are bergaining, they are REALLY cutthroat if they understand you are new there, almost ALL of the English novels are not more than 200-250 Tk, so if they ask a price like 600 or 800Tk, you should know they are asking atleast triple or quadruple of the reasonable price!
OH MAN! READING ALL THESE COMMENTS IS URGING ME TO GO TO NILKHET RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DAMN ALL THESE STRIKES!!!!

It's A HUMUNGUS place just stuffed with YA books! Though, the quality is thumbs down, I couldn't care less about that!
Which book did you buy from Nilkhet? Which book did you see? Which book do you want to buy from Nilkhet? Which book's quality are you terribly disappointed from?
