I'm not familiar with this story line, although I recognize the alien races.Who are you planning on casting as Ms Marvel William?
Elizabeth Banks only acts in roles where the character shares her first name...
Betty in Spider-Man, Beth in 40 Year Old Virgin and also in Role Models... rule her out. :)

I think this one is going to be interesting.
It's a gamble, as it's very different from the other marvel movies: a big cosmic, space opera and it features a raccoon with a gun.
I do love that marvel feels secure enough to take risks and start making movies with characters that are not safe big name heroes.
DC is afraid to try a Wonder Woman movie, while marvel is doing a group no one outside a comic shop has ever heard of.

I d..."
Initially DC was more successful than Marvel at the movies. But this changed with the introduction of the first Spider-Man Series & the Xmen. DC still seems to feel that they are bigger and better. Instead of building up to a JLA movie like Marvel did with Avengers, it's thrown in our faces.
FYI, I liked Man of Steel
William wrote: "Yeah, I know you like MoS and I'm not saying it's good or bad (haven't seen it yet :D ) but I was meaning simply from the facts that a lot of people didn't like it, many others thought it was badly..."So beyond the obvious heros, DC struggle. I'm not wild about the original Batmans- they're camp. Original Superman rocks.
I think one problem is marvel had a long term plan and created a movie universe and DC looks they are staggering around trying to play catch up.
The Dark Knight trilogy made money, but does not get us to a JLA movie.
I really have some doubts Man of Steel gets us to JLA either, but on top of that, have to introduce a new Batman on top of each of the other heroes and they don't seem to have a plan or the patience to pull one off.
DC needs a Joss Whedon, and all they have is Nolan.

You hit the nail on the head there Travis

How many live action Batman movies are there- 8? and Superman movies - 6? (not counting the upcoming movie) What other characters have a movie? One - Green Lantern - which apparently did not do that well.. at least they tried. It is like the company does not believe in its titles enough - so why should the audience?
I'm looking forward to this movie, and while I don't know very much about the Guardians, the whole idea of Marvel making a movie about space-age characters that not many know about is cool :D Plus, that raccoon just looks so freaking epic XD
Trailer was interesting: looks great, most of the humor fell a bit flat and half the teams costumes look like leftovers from Firefly.
Does have some great looking flashes of action and space opera.
I don't think this will get the raves that other marvel movies have, but it looks like it'll be fun.

I know next to nothing about these characters - but I have so much faith in Marvel... looks like plenty of action and humor... another fun summer movie.
I'm with you James, I really don't know these characters except one small appearance they made in one of the cartoon tv series, but I'm already wanting to see this movie if only because "Star-Lord" seems freaking hilarious XD
I think that it will still have an epic quality... there was probably much more focus on comedy vs. actioni in the trailer - but it will be in there...
I think we'll get a different trailer that is a little darker later down the road, as it get closer to the release date of the movie.
Yeah. But still, it's different than most Marvel movies, but from the actiony parts and the short clips about the characters, I do think it's going to be more of the Marvel that we're used to than, like you said, Hangover in Space.
I just think it's great that marvel, after bringing back comic book movies, is now bringing back space opera.
Plus, anytime somebody tries to give me the 'realism' argument, I can just shout 'Raccoon with a gun!' and be done.

I don't think this movie is meant to be as serious as any of the others, because of the fact of Rocket and all the other characters except for Peter pretty much. ;) But I don't think it's going to be as crazy as the preview portrayed it to be.
So, re-watched the preview when I showed it to family last night, and did anyone else notice that The Collector from the end credit scene from Thor 2 was in the preview?
We have a new trailer and once again - this looks cool. I really don't know the characters, the story (apart from what you can get from said trailer) but don't care - I'm really looking forward to seeing this. It looks like the perfect combination of action, comedy and fun.
Yes! The only thing I know about these characters is from an episode in Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but I don't care! This is Marvel and this movie looks awesome - and knowing Marvel and how they do things, I'm pretty sure it will be a good film XD
heck yeah it will anfd the trailer id epic love the middle figer bit in the trailer, its on every time i see a film since me and my sis went to see CAWS
Have to wait.
We want to see it at the imax theater, but it's going to take an extra week to mine and my kids schedules to sync up.

Spoiler free review...
This movie has it all - it is "out there", but in a good way, its laugh out loud funny, visually stunning, there is plenty of action... awesome movie, I really enjoyed it. Marvel has done it again.

Spoiler free review: Man, that was fun!
My gripes are minor, mostly about how is it that so many aliens know earth swears, the rest was a nice big piece of space opera.
While all the Guardians were great, I was really impressed with how much I liked Drax.
Now, I can't wait to get the DVD and a Groot action figure.

When Vin Diesel was first announced, I so wanted him to be the voice of Rocket, but he is awesome as Groot and even with his limited vocabulary, steals most scenes that he's in.
So now I want a Groot action figure that you press and he says 'I am Groot'.

Apparently marvel is coming out with some novels based around the movie-verse heroes and it's rumored that the GotG book will be a prequel of Rocket and Groot's adventures before they met the others.
With a good writer that could be a lot of fun. Have to keep an eye out for it.

Any word on if this is a Junior Novel or something a little more mature?
