This is where you can post your ideas for upcoming challenges.

Linda (mslinda8393) What about a series challenge? Choose a series, and read all, in order, with a discussion?

message 3: by Ann aka Iftcan (last edited Nov 04, 2009 03:27PM) (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) um, we'd have to limit the size of the series, don't you think? I mean some of them have got huge amounts of books in them--while others only have 2.

So say "read a series with between x and y number of books in it." That way if someone wants a series with MORE books, they can just read that number.

Well linda I like the idea maybe with a series that is complete and we haven't read yet. I'd like to see series suggesstions first. I have two YA series that I'd like to read but haven't yet. Maximum Ride is one can't remember the other one. Right now.

message 5: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Maximum Ride is a good series. My grandkids read it, then made their parents read it, then made ME read it. Of course, its a good yarn, so there wasn't a lot of arm twisting involved at all. Plus, I've always wanted to have wings, so I got to indulge my fantasy with Max, Angel and the rest of the gang.

I like the series idea too and we should limit it since some do have 15 plus to them! I've been wanting to ride Maximum Ride too so that would be a good one.

message 7: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. A long series would be great, maybe 5 to 15 in the series.

message 8: by Ann aka Iftcan (last edited Nov 11, 2009 03:30PM) (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Well Carolyn--if you want a LONG series, try Andre Norton's Witch World series. I think there are like 20 or 25 books in the series. Its so big in fact, that there are some "mini" series in it. There are the Simon Tregarthe series (Simon, his wife and the stories about their 3 kids), the Crystal Gryphon series, the Dales series, plus several others that are single books set in the same world. And yeah, I DO own all of them. Some titles in multiple covers. Who ME an Andre Norton fanatic. Don't know WHAT would give you that idea (trying to hide the 8 ft. tall bookshelf that holds nothing BUT Andre Norton books.) :oP

message 9: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I've never even heard about him. I'll put him on my wish list. I love long series.

message 10: by Linda (new)

Linda (mslinda8393) I checked the group's bookshelf to see what has already been read by the group so not to duplicate. Here are some series:

Greywalker--4 books
Weather Warden--9 books
Morrigan's Cross-- trilogy
Nightside--9 books
Rogue Agent--6 books
Dark Elf Trilogy
Several series of Shannara (Terry Brooks)

message 11: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) carolyn--Andre is female. She took a male pen name back when she first started writing, because when she tried to sell sci fi/fantasy under her own name she was informed that "women didn't WRITE that kind of book." She was one of the REAL old timers--her first book was published in 1934 and her LAST one was published 3 months before her death in 2005. So she had a very long publishing life. There are still MORE books/short stories/articles that she's written that are still under consideration for publishing. And her estate has been approached by Hollywood for the movie rights to Witch World. Her heirs have said that they will retain MUCH tighter control IF they sell the rights than were given for Beastmaster. Yes, that movie WAS supposedly based on Norton's The Beast Master. But other than the title and the fact that the main character could "talk" to animals telepathically, they totally screwed the rest of the story.

Um, ok, getting down from soapbox before the men with the little white jacket show up. Sorry, but what Hollywood does to books is a serious sore point.

Carolyn F. As soon as I went on her link and saw her picture I thought he looked like an old lady - cross dresser? LOL I went on her website and saved the list of her books in date order. I'll put them on my list to purchase/borrow. Thanks for the heads-up.

Jennifer (jnhart) I've read the first Weather Warden book and it was pretty good. I would love to read the rest of the series. I've also been meaning to give the Greywalker series a try. So many choices!

I've been meaning to start the WW series as well. I really love Rachel caine's Morganville series. I read as much as I was going to read of the Greywalker before putting it down for good. It did not catch my interest.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Word, number, object etc challenge are fun. For the cover or title. like for 50 you do

One
1
2
3
4
5

two
1
2
3
4
5
etc

each number has to be contained in the title or on the cover in some way. [single figure one, couple two, menage 3 etc:]. titles like once dead, twice shy can be used in the 1 or 2 category. If your struggling to fill a space exceptions can be made like "to" and "for".

Objects challenge: List 5/5 objects often found in PNR . You pick the 5 objects first, then pick/read the books. Ex: Mythical beings, elements etc.

PNR places: Same as the objects but with places that are paranormal such as Atlantis, cemeteries etc [like if a character goes to a cemetery like in Red Headed Stepchild or Halfway to the Grave:].Long as the place is somewhere the MC visits it can be deemed paranormal.
