Kallie My subjective impression: Janet Frame couldn't handle human dominance games. That resulted in some wonderful books, written in voice that could have come from someone on another, benign planet observing how humans interact. I get this from reading To the Is-land, Faces in the Water, An Angel at My Table, Owls Do Cry; and in a less direct way, from the novels which are more challenging and metaphorical. Just wondering if anyone else sees her this way . . . Or??? I also wonder what other books people have read that fit this topic.

Carol Whitelow I have just read this book and found it hard at the start but kept going wanting to find out more_, interested enough to watch the film that was made
