Buddy Read - Thankless In Death (August 2015) - Spoiler Zone
I dropped my phone yesterday & killed it...it wouldn't turn on again - completely dead...so my audiobooks are on hold until I get my new phone. Hopefully, I'll be able to start Thankless next week!
It didn't even want to touch the phone story. I've been there and it really nearly killed me. But technology is so fabulous these days that I didn't loose too much of my data. All the best for you and your phone Sandra.
Thanks Michelle. It just made me sick...Luckily, I was due for an upgrade & they cut me a great deal! I'm just lost without my phone - mostly because of my audiobooks! lol

LOL!A few months back my Kindle Fire died and I had to come to terms just how much I use it. Not that I didn't have enough to read, but I love my Kindle Fire and I was going through massive withdrawals!
My smartphone, however, I'm not that addicted to. I am due for a new one. Playing with the idea of moving from Android to the iPhone.

Are you having audiobook withdrawal?

I switched from my iPad to my phone and don't think I could adjust to the reverse again. Hang in there!
You're all making me jealous I almost want to ask you to send you old ones my way. Only way I'll be able to afford an iPhone
Michelle, my first was $50 because of my retention. I kept it so long that we eventually got a free upgrade deal. I'm never swayed anymore by the new shiny thing:) Too expensive.
Lol. I must admit my phone I use for calling and IM. The rest is all good and well but I hardly ever use it. When it come to choosing a new phone I always hate how the salesperson is really going on and on about this or that that I know I don't care about.Although I did recently download the kindle app on my phone but as all my books are iBooks I very seldom use it. Oh well I'll get there.
I use my phone for calls, texting, audiobooks and to hotspot my iPad when I'm not near wifi service.
Must say I never thought of audiobooks on my phone. It's so simple it flew over my head. Thanx ladies I think I'll start thankless with an audio on my phone.
I still use my MP3 for most of my audiobooks as the phone is way out of my budget...LOL. My children gave me an Ipod and am starting to figure out how to run my audiobooks on that. I read mostly from my NOOK. I love audiobooks...I get to listen while I craft.
Happy to say I'm back "On Phone" and will try to get back into Thankless this week. I'm having to reload everything...it wasn't a simple transfer since my old phone was dead.
Couldn't wait for you Sandra. I started today. But I'll take it slow. I know what a nightmare getting a new phone is.

Yay! Nothing's quite so simple with Apple:)

I don't do Apple...I'm an Android gal & fan. This would have been very simple had I not killed the phone. The store can still get my contacts but I'm having to reload my Apps, etc.
Michelle - I hope to be with you by the end of the week.

How do you feel about that security flaw in the Android phone?
No problem. It's a first time read so I couldn't wait. But I might wait a bit more and continue later. Been reading ahead the last couple of nooks and it was strange being ahead.
Sorry to have diverted this thread to phones...haha. I only mentioned it because it meant my reading of Thankless was delayed a few days.
I know what you mean, Michelle. I've enjoyed our BR of this series because it's meant discussing as I've reread each book - it greatly enhanced my experience with the series!

Just have to put in a phone aside. I just had to show my BFF how to use the kindle and audio apps on her iPhone. I was surprised at how much she did not know about her own phone. Now she can listen to books. I have used my phone almost exclusively for years now. Michelle, look at the prices of iPhones just after a new phone comes out. The older versions go way down in price. Back in the day, I got my teens the iPhone 3 for .01 after the 4s came out.
Now this murderer is vicious. This guy doesn't have one redeeming feature so far and I'm 40% through the book. I love the Irish family.
That opening scene...man! Robb is a master at opening scenes/chapters, I think. Really lets you know how sick this guy is right away.
Jonetta, I agree. I completely understand Eve's anxiety and need to solve this case. This guy deserves to be hurt and hurt bad.Sandra, I agree. The opening scene is so brutal and then we slip right into an Eve & Roarke scene that relieves the anxiety. I love that he tells Eve now you jinxed it.
Yes! Killing his mother was...brutal. And then calmly sitting down waiting for his father...gave me chills.
No what gave me chills was he washed his hands then sat down to eat the last sandwich his mother will every make for him while waiting for his dad while she lays there. That was crazy.
Sandra ~ ♥ Cross My Heart ♥ wrote: "Yes! Killing his mother was...brutal. And then calmly sitting down waiting for his father...gave me chills."It makes you wonder about how people can kill their parents and they are good parents. Gave me goosebumps reading about him waiting for his father.
You're right ladies. Every thing about the opening was chilling. His self entitled rant that end with the murder of his mother ,etc And that followed by the beauty of Eve and Roarke in the morning. And she's back to avoiding vending. :-)
The sandwich deal really took this scene to another level. The entire process & his thoughts as his mother was making the sandwich and trying to talk to him about looking for work & then, his eating it after having repeatedly stabbed her. It's details like the sandwich that ties scenes together for me & is just one of the many things I love about these books. Sometimes, it's the small, everyday things that stand out in a scene & make it stay with you.
I love the banter in the bullpen. Her team is so much fun but they know how to get down to business in a second. Then the meeting with Whitney telling her about the medal, the captaincy, and then Roarke's medal. Eve's first response to Roarke getting a medal is she will use this on him for life. Then she is back in the bullpen and joins in wearing sunglasses from Baxter and gives Peabody a well-done. One of the things I like most about this series is how real all the characters are. We go from the brutal to the every day life and then some very special relationship moments and back to the brutal.
Is it weird of me to fully understand why she declined the captaincy but wishing she had not? I want her to have that rank as she has really worked her a#s off for it. I'm thinking with everything before the Icove case she stood a good chance of the promotion but since even greater chance as evident by Whitney asking her if she wants it. And a side question does Feenay have a Lt under him? Eve always goes straight to him and you never hear his guys taking about one.
Michelle wrote: "Is it weird of me to fully understand why she declined the captaincy but wishing she had not? I want her to have that rank as she has really worked her a#s off for it. I'm thinking with everything..."Michelle, I think that was Robb's way to stop the questions. I'm not sure why she can't be on the street and still be a captain. Ian is a Lt. so yes Feeney does have LTs reporting to him.
I love when Eve plans a date night and surprises Roarke. I like how he is cautious this time so he doesn't upset Eve. He learned his lesson.

In the latest suspense thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, the year 2060 is drawing to a close in New York City and loved ones are coming together for Thanksgiving. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water…
Lieutenant Eve Dallas has plenty to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke’s big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it’s a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.
Other couples aren’t as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying in their home stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned—and heartbroken by the evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn’t made a great impression on the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him—but they didn’t think he was capable of this.
Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he’s stolen from his parents and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry’s going to strike next.
