Hocus Pocus

This is the one that did it for me. I just started rereading it for the first time...ever???

This crossed my path in High School and I was never the same after. It altered my view of what fiction was, what it could be like and what it could do.

To the young me this book screamed with a secret anger and angst about the world.

But mostly in spoke to me in a way that was both new and familiar.

I know KV is not everyone's cup of tea and that this is not considered his best work BUT

it ran into to me like a freight train, just at the right time.

This and Hitchhiker's Guide.

It is so funny to be reading it and see the HUGE influence Kurt Vonnegut has on the podcast. I'm not someone who can quote passages of his book or even remember the plots.

But the podcast feels like it would not ever exist if it weren't for this book falling into my hands at just the right time.

Jennifer Balvert | 1 comments Only KV I ever read was Bluebeard and I often wondered if the only way I got through it was bc of the art themes. Funny is not a word I would use to describe that book. But I trust your sense of humor so maybe I just got the wrong book. You're making me wonder if I should give him another try.

Jenny Cosgrove | 1 comments An abridged version for children of Sherlock Holmes stories. I quickly moved on to the real deal but this book solidified my love of mysteries and detective fiction (started by Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys) and of reading in general. Not to mention a life long love of Holmes.
