Fantastic group Sue! So pleased about it. Hello members I'm Kelly and in December 2013 I challenged myself to read 1 black author's book a month. I've found some real gems so far.look forward to reading with you all a future challenges.
Hi Kelly, I am so glad you have joined, I was going to invite you as we know each other from another book group. When I looked at other black literature group they did not really attract me, so I thought I would create my own as I am an experienced moderator. I will be joining you in reading one ethinically relevant book each month.
My name is Sue and I am from West Indian orgin. I have read a lot of other mainstream literature but have a deep seated need to read black literature. When I was at school there was not enough black history being taught, although for english literature we did read 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee, which is one of my all time favourite novels.
Happy Reading Everyone .

Hello everybody. I am Brandon, I am from New York City(born and raised) and my family is from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. I work in healthcare. I am new to GoodReadsEven though I read mainstream books and works by authors by of other minority communities (Hispanic, Asian, etc.), I love to read the experiences of our people both in Africa and in the diaspora. I have read many books by African American authors and hopefully this group would add to that knowledge.

I have not started this novel yet, but I hope to soon. Hope come August I shall have more time to devote to our book club. Thanks for pointing out to me that I have not set up a discussion folder for the currently reading book but I have now.

Greetings,I'm Jeron McCall, an author who has self-published two novels. I have an interest in Black literature because I feel that it doesn't get enough attention, and it constitutes the prevailing theme in both of my novels.
