This book can only be related to watching the seasons go by. First, its winter and Oskar Schindler is a German business man whom has fallen victim to the love of money and power. He is a selfish and cruel man who cares for no one. His business mind works to find ways in which he will only benefit. Oskar finds himself entangled with Jews during WW2 by purchasing a factory in Kracow, Poland. He purchases this factory at first as a sole business transaction that will bring in much revenue. After naming Itzak Stern leader of the factory, the Jewish manager brings in as many Jews as possible to be named "essential." Being tagged as an "essential" Jew meant that you were now exempt from being taken to a concentration camp. After finding out what Itzak Stern had done, Oskar looses his temper and screams at Stern. During his rage, he looks out upon the Jews and realizes that he has the power to save innocent lives, not all, but some. Oskar goes from filthy rich to being poorer than a Jew but he ends up saving over 1,000 lives. After winter, spring comes and similarly to how the book changes, there is a glimmer of warmth and it almost brings a reader to tears. I, myself, had family in the Holocaust and was deeply moved by this book. At some points throughout the book, it felt like i was reading a history book because it was so factually based and slow. This book is full of German as well as large vocabulary words that, without a dictionary, were enigmatic. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes World history and enjoys reading about it. I liked the fact that the book followed the main character throughout the whole book because the past two books that I have read switched points of view between three or more characters. It was refreshing to read a book about one major, main character. I disliked the fact that the book was so boring at times that I found my head bobbing about as I explored the life of Oskar Schindler. At the beginning of the book, Oskar Schindler is depicted as someone who is cold and cruel. Without mentioning a few important details that one should find out when reading, he was not the type of person one would want to be associated with. Overall, I would definitely want someone in my family to read because of the rich Jewish history.
