And we’re clipping right along in The Pirate’s Wish reread! This post will be discussing Chapters 8-11:

Chapter 8: Ananna wakes up in a bed on the Island of the Sun. She made it to the manticore’s home island alive, thanks to Naji healing her. The manticore’s family rewards her for returning their daughter with a dinner and a boon.

Chapter 9: Ananna learns that the boon was a love spell to make Naji desire her. She refuses to be with him under those circumstances and is deeply hurt by what happens. Marjani comforts her, saying that love spells can only work if there’s an attraction to start with.

Chapter 10: The Nadir leaves the Island of the Sun and arrives in Jokja, Marjani’s home country. Ostensibly this is to learn more about the starstones, but it’s also a way for Marjani to return to the love of her life, the queen of Jokja—Saida.

Chapter 11: Echo shows back up, hoping to once again exploit Ananna’s weakened state. Ananna doesn’t immediately refuse, and Naji bursts into her room to stop her. They fight over what’s happen. Later, during dinner with Queen Saida, they learn that the palace starstones had been stolen by pirates.

As always, discuss these chapters to your heart’s content! A lot happens in terms of Naji and Ananna’s relationship—what do you think about the development of it? Is there any chance of the two of them getting together? And how is Naji going to deal with those starstones?

I read this book a few months ago and ive always wondered...... did naji know he had a spell on him???

Monicha (monicha_stark) | 28 comments So, now that it's been a few days of reading the book (and don't have the book with me) will do my best of remember my fav parts.

When Ananna awakes up, really had the vision that it look like a heaven of sorts. Just with all the sun light and warmth. I was so relived when she was fine, that Naji managed to save her and take care of her. Thought it was so sweet of him escorting her all over the gardens and not leaving her side.

At first then the boon happened, I really thought it was because Naji wanted her... so it was heart braking when Ananna figured it out that it was the boon. Though when she is sitting with Marjani and she says that love spells only work if there is an attraction, definitely did a YIPPY in my head :)

SO the love story with Marjani and Saida, unreal!! For one (and no offense to anyone) I loved the same sex love story and NO ONE around thought anything of it. Like it was completely normal. I was super happy to see that, it's not very many books I read that have it. Was so happy reading it.
Then how Marjani reacts when seeing Saida and how Saida reacts when seeing Marjani.. I was just about in happy tears for them. I really could feel the love they had for each other AND how Saida never got married, it was like she was wait for Marjani... So awesome!

Jokja really sounds like a place I would really love!! How it was close to the ocean and yet close to a forest, to me, it sounds like a beautiful place. Also the rooms of the palace sound so open and welcoming, I would love to see it.

When Echo comes back, I really didn't know what to think. I wasn't really scared, but on edge for sure. Ananna seemed to have it together.. so you thought, but then she is so weakened form the boon, that she really didn't seem to care anymore. When Echo was starting to kind of get to Ananna and she started to consider handing over Naji, then my heart started racing.. NOOO.. it was all I could think of. I was SO happy when Naji just showed up.. it was a close call.

When Naji looked at Ananna after that, it was hurt all over him. When he knew that she was thinking about handing him over, it was unreal. When he explains about what he meant by them being connected when Ananna offered her blood. It was something else. The idea of knowing some ones thoughts and so on. It made sense when she could hear Naji, even though he wasn't around. SO that's what he was trying to tell her.

Finding out that the starstones were stolen, it was a little frustrating. Mostly just when Naji made himself look very composed, but Ananna could feel what he was feeling inside. She was angry with him, but was also so very relived that he wasn't go to touch a stone any time soon. <3

Looking forward on the next chapters.
