Leigh | 6291 comments It's that time again everyone. Please select one(1) book to nominate for May Group Reads. The person that nominated the book that gathers the most votes during the voting period will get a $10 gift card to either Amazon.com OR bn.com.

Please remember if you your book is selected by the group you are expected to be the leader of the discussion for that book--don't worry it is not hard.
Your nomination should be available in paperback and you CANNOT nominate your own work. Also, I thought this went without saying but I will say it anyway; the book should be in the mystery, crime. or thriller genres.

The nomination period will close April 8.

Please try and use the add book/author function, which is located at the upper right hand corner of the comment box.

I've already put a request in my library for this one. Looks really good.

message 24: by Chava (new)

Chava | 2788 comments It is. Don't get fooled by the girly title that suggests a sleazy romance novel, it totally isn't!!

message 25: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments Our American covers frequently are a bit rubbish. See the international cover for The Cuckoo's Calling-- so much better than the American cover.

Some books even change their titles depending on if it's published in the UK or in the US. We get both here in Australia. I saw both editions of The Coockoo's Calling on the shelves here :)

I'm wondering if this book is suitable for our group, it seems to be listed as sci-fi and apocalyptic, but not crime/mystery/etc that his group reads. I could be wrong though, I don't know this book

Wondering the same. It sounds like it migh tbe adventurey, mnaybe thrilelr, but I am not sure.

Katherine--would you classify this book as a mystery or crime thriller?

Judging by the couple of descriptions I have read on Goodreads, Amazon, and NPR it sounds like it doesn't really fit.

message 32: by Beth (new)

Beth (techeditor) | 1018 comments I usually nominate every month. But last month I didn't, and this month I'm not again. My cat (my baby for 15 years) is in the last stage of kidney disease, and I don't know how much longer she'll last. When she goes, I don't trust myself to want to lead a book discussion. So, for now, I'll just vote on someone else's nomination. So someone had better nominate something I want to read or have read.

So sorry about your baby. :-( Give her kisses for and hugs for me.

message 35: by Terri (new)

Terri Beth: I was ready to nominate a book when your message caught my eye. I am so sorry for what you & your kitty are going thru. I suddenly lost my 17yr old son 31/2yrs ago & my Sweetness & Ham were one of my Saving Graces. They still are. They're the only ones who see me when I cry & they're the keeper of my secrets. No matter how bad I've slept or hard the day ahead is, they still need to be fed aa someone has to take care of the litter box! We're also a blended family: my sons his daughters. My kitties are something we share. I'm sending peaceful thoughts & hugs for you both.
