The Borrible Trilogy by Michael de Larrabeiti?ETA:
The Borribles, The Borribles Go For Broke and Across the Dark Metropolis
Children's books I know of involving rats:The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents
The Battle for the Castle (sequel to The Castle in the Attic)
Peeps
Well theres the adult series that's Anita Blake that has some rat shapeshiftersNeil Gaiman's book Neverwhere has rats
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH? I wouldn't say there was a LOT of death and violence, though there was a little.
i think i read them 6, 7 years ago? they were even darker than i thought gregor the overlander could get lol
Was it Rats by Paul Zindel? He wrote a series of YA books featuring hammer horror monster/animal attacks.
the dark part sounds similar but if i remember correctly they were a series of books(thanks for all the suggestions and help so far though everyone!)
The Deptford Mice series? I think the dark portal was part of that? Or something by the same author?
okay I didn't think it was the deptford mice series because I remember there being more than a trilogy of books, but upon reading their summaries i think they sound familiar and are the books i was looking for. again, thank you for all your help!
There's a children's book called 'Mrs Frisby and the rats of Nimh' can't remember much about it though.
Kerry Greenwood's Cave Rats? The rats in the title refer to both rats and the feral children who run wild and live rather savagely. It's set in a post apocalyptic Melbourne... There is at least two books in this series.
