Andria Layton | 7 comments Okay, so i can't remember much about this book but I'm dying to find it! I found it at a Hudson's dirt cheap right before hurricane Katrina. It had a green and blue cover, and was hard back i recall that it was one book in a series. The title was a single word, it was kind of lonng and hard to pronounce. I think it started with an f but i could be mistaken. The protagonist was a female adolescent. Something had happened in the families life and they had moved to a new home by a water source. Strange things began to happen, an d there was something that looked like a strange large rock. One day she finds it taking and possibly an actual person. I can't remember much, but it embedded u strangely with some magical sea like create appearing in the home and talking with the girl.. The magical creature didn't seem like a good guy is this ringing a bell for anyone??? I read it during a trying time in my life and I'd like to return to it and read the rest of the series.

Andria, so you read this book around 2005?

Is there romance in this young adult book/series?
Any mermaids or selkies (seal-like creatures)?

Does the heroine have any special powers?

Andria Layton | 7 comments i don't remember much it seemed to be more YA. there were magical sea creatures near the end. it built up to it, and I remember the girl protagonist in a room with this lady magical being at the end. I think they went into another world. I can't remember, it didn't resolve well because there was another book in the series.

Andria Layton | 7 comments the particular copy I had was a hardback with a slip cover. the slip cover was blueish green and the title was written very shiny or holographic almost. i think it was one word and started with the letter F. I was 12 at the time and remember having trouble pronouncing the title.

Copying and pasting from your new thread which we've closed:

".....I remember the protagonist was a teenage female. I can't remember why she had moved, or was spending the summer somewhere? she was in a house by the water and noticed what she thought was a statue or rock by the water. as the days went on she realized it was a person. I don't remember anything in between, but I think near the end things went crazy. it was magical and unexpected, there was some kind of magical being in the house and I think who had opened up another world? I could be off on some of the details..."

Aerulan has linked Fathom

The stone figure reminded me of Prospero's Children but I'm not sure if the other details fit.

Andria Layton | 7 comments fathom is not the book, however, the second one you listed looks so much like it. I read the description and it is bringing back so many memories. I'm about to do a quick Google search to confirm!

Andria Layton | 7 comments YAS Prosperos Children is the book!!! I was so off on some of the things I remembered, the cover I recall was underneath the slip cover and the F word I struggled with so much was the female protagonist name! after reading a very detailed description I'm positive this is the book I've been searching for all of these years!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
