The above LINK is to a question I asked and then answered. "What makes a book a classic?" My simple answer was that it has to have stood the test of time. But what about books that are relatively new? Can you tell something is going to be an "instant" classic? It made me think of several of Stephen Lawhead's books. They've never been out of print, his fans are hardcore and his books are amazing but as far as "Time" is concerned, they (and he) haven't been around that long.
I wouldn't mind hearing what my fellow 'Lawheadians' have to say about that question.
Sincerely, Laura-Lee

Werner Laure-Lee, sorry that I didn't see this thread until now! For some reason, I haven't been getting updates from this group in my daily Updates feed. :-( (Of course, we haven't had any activity in this group for over a year....)

I usually think of classics as being at least 50 years old. We can hazard guesses as to whether or not newer works will stand the test of time; but to my mind, the idea of an "instant classic" is sort of an oxymoron.
