I know there are other would-be Shakespeare completionists; let's hear which plays did or did not live up to the hype and which lesser-known plays are worth reading. Personally, my favorites are Twelfth Night, Henry IV Pt. 1, and Hamlet and runners-up are Measure for Measure, Henry V, Lear, and Romeo and Juliet. Othello and Macbeth didn't quite live up to their reputations, but that might be because I read those without the benefit of class/book group discussion, or because I had such high expectations going in. I love the gore in Titus Andronicus and...something- the balanced representation of two opposing camps, perhaps- in both Henry VIII and Julius Caesar. The Taming of the Shrew was just frustrating and I'm sick of A Midsummer Night's Dream, having covered it in every class that touched on Shakespeare.
