I used to think, as a child, that this was not a real novel, I used to think it was a 'literary joke', given the name of the author (sorry). I love how Virginia Woolf makes a point of mentioning it in A Room of One's Own, I think with gusto. Yet, one day, in a charity book shop, I found it... now I do have the hardcover copy... But I haven't read it yet.
What I know for sure is that this novel has had a very profound effect in establishing epistolary narrative within female fiction. I wonder if The Color Purple pays homage to Burney in its structure...
