Eyal Suseela The Rogue Not Taken - book 1 in the Scandal & Scoundrel series, related to both the Love by Numbers and The Rules of Scoundrels series (serieses?)

Abbreviated Goodreads Summary: When she finds herself the target of very public aristocratic scorn, Sophie Talbot does what she must to escape the city and its judgment—she flees on the back of a carriage, vowing never to return to London…or to society. But the carriage isn’t saving her from ruin. It’s filled with it.
....
Kingscote, the Marquess of Eversley, has never met a woman he couldn’t charm, a quality that results in a reputation far worse than the truth, a furious summons home, and a long, boring trip to the Scottish border. When King discovers stowaway Sophie, however, the trip becomes anything but boring.
....
He thinks she’s trying to trick him into marriage. She wouldn’t have him if he were the last man on earth. But carriages bring close quarters, dark secrets, and unbearable temptation, and suddenly opposites are altogether too attractive…

I'm a little hesitant about reading this, just because I loved MacLean's Scoundrels series so much and I don't know if this can live up to those books. Fingers crossed, I guess?

Krissy (krissystewart) | 407 comments I have not read this book yet but I love everything by this author so I have no doubt I'll probably love this book as well.

Aglaea | 369 comments Oh, it is to be released soon! I will need to stalk Overdrive to avoid the long queues I'm stuck in now with the Rules of Scoundrels, and place a hold asap. It is killing me when people read slowly and/or read without manually returning if done before due date.

Which week will you read this for?

I understand, I feel the same way. Does your library have a list of books they have recently ordered? I usually stalk that and place holds as soon as there is a record available. That way, I'm almost always near the front of the hold line.

I was planning on reading this for week 4 - an author you discovered in 2015.

Aglaea | 369 comments Great tip. It is only recently that I've unleashed a certain kind of, ahem, obsessive streak about reading, and I just dug out the new releases GR email to find the spot here on the website where to see those lists. Library release lists are next, and I suspect I need to cover both the website and OverDrive app maybe. Let the bookmarking slash RSS grabbing commence...

Aglaea | 369 comments While this wasn't on my challenge lists, I read it the other day and found it a zillion times better than the story of Temple and Mara, so it got four stars.

I see you, Eyal, rated it 3. You didn't like it that much? Did you notice the second book in this series has been announced?

Most books I read wind up as 3 stars - it's the rating I give to books that I enjoyed and had fun reading at the time, but are not books that I would re-read, unless I had limited options. But I did like this one and I'm really looking forward to reading the second book!

Ah, makes sense! I find this particular aspect being baked into my evaluation more often. My TBR is ridiculously long compared to time available and a book needs to be exceptional for me to consider re-reading these days. So far I'm happy reading MacLean only once.
