2017 Reading Challenge discussion

I wasn't particularly looking forward to reading this but I absolutely loved the book. I highly recommend it for this category! I couldn't believe the torture they inflicted upon the little girls during "foot binding". Through all the heartache and agonizing pain, the love story between two "old sames" emerges into one beautiful tale.

Good comment. I read this 2-3 years ago and was touched by the same issue particularly because the author personalizes it. I thought it was a very delicate story with nicely developed characters.

This is a great book! So good and so sad. I made the terrible mistake of googling foot binding afterwards, I almost threw up. It's disgusting. I can't imagine doing that to my daughter. I understand that it's a cultural thing, so I personally don't have a context for it, but still, it's awful.

Haha, I googled it to! I couldn't help myself, it was traumatizing!

I'm reading this book for this category too! I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep. Really well written and very sad! Well put Amanda!
