It is Wilkie Collins birthday today. He was born in 1824. The Woman in White and Moonstone have always been favourites of mine. How about you?

A fun fact. Two rather contrasting authors were born on this day: Simone de Beauvoir and Wilbur Smith. Just a tad different in style! Which do you prefer?

I loved it but, on balance The Woman in White does it for me. Groundbreaking in its day

Today is the birthday of Susan Sontag. Possibly my favourite of her quotes is "Existence is no more than the precarious attainment of relevance in an intensely mobile flux of past, present, and future".
You can find more of her most famous quotes through the link below

Rainy Sunday afternoon - fiddling around looking at bookish things and thought I'd share a few interesting (well, to me anyway) snippets with you. In this first of two or three posts today - Authors with birthdays this coming week (at least those whose names meant something to me)
Ray Bradbury The Martian Chronicles, Alex McCall Smith The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, A.S. Byatt Possession, Martin Amis London Fields and Jeanette Winterson Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit - a random collection of different styles. What do you think of their work?
