I read the golden compass, it's really awesome!! they also made a movie about it, but the book is way much better, it's really original and detailed, absolutely wonderful
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. I haven't personally read it, but I've heard it's great and I'd like to :)
I've been told that Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare counts as steampunk. I agree with that, and it is a very good book.
OMG I'm going to read Something Strange and Deadly soon, does it count as steampunk? I think so. As a 13 year old, my mom won't let me read Soulless, but I can read Something Strange and Deadly. Steampunk is my favorite genre! I'm so excited!
I'm so excited for steampunk! A not very mainstream author of steampunk is Richard Harland (who is a very nice guy, for the record), especially his book Song of the Slums. It had romance, rebellion and music!

Hi LK,
You could also try Gail Carriger's Finishing School series, which is also steampunk but young adult! :)

Thanks, I checked it out and it seems awesome! I'm definitely going to read it!

The Lunar Chronicles series is tagged as steampunk, and it is my 3rd fav series of all time (so far)! I gave 5 stars to all of the books. I also plan on reading Rook + The Dark Unwinding. Something Strange and Deadly + Etiquette & Espionage are at the top of my list, though.
The Leviathan Trilogy is a really good steampunk novel, Scott Westerfeld's world-building skills are amazing and really help give off the steampunk vibes. Also, The Invention of Hugo Cabret which focuses on automatons like the Infernal devices (just not fighting them, of course).
I like The Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross, and Tesla Evolution Series by Mark Langane. I actually did a review on it on my blog at Where Stephanie Reads.
THE LOTUS WAR TRILOGY. PERIOD. If you've read Illuminae, Jay Kristoff is the co-author and this is his steampunk trilogy. It incorporates beautiful Japanese themes and culture and fantasy and friendship and a little romance. Highly recommend. <3
I haven't actually delved that much into Steampunk but I did really enjoy reading The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason - it's a mix of time travel, mythology, steampunk and Sherlock Holmes which was awesome :D
I'm reading Rook at the moment. Next I wanna read Etiquette & Espionage.
The Leviathan trilogy. Seriously, it's awesome. I love Steampunk stuff in general, but for some reason, most of the Steampunk books I have read were not very good (except for the Leviathan series, of course). It's weird.
Also, the 5th book in the Green Rider series. It's a high fantasy series overall, but in the 5th book, the main character ends up 200 years in the future, and it's basically a steampunk world.
