The air was crisp and refreshing, just what Marcy needed to focus on instead of not falling on her face and not thinking about strangling her friend Sally for recommending outdoor yoga.
The air was crisp and refreshing, just what Marcy needed to focus on instead of not falling on her face and not thinking about strangling her friend Sally for recommending outdoor yoga.
Or maybe she should just get to the point she was trying most to avoid, and think about strangling Alfonso - metaphorically of course.
The awful things he'd said last night echoed in her mind as the rain poured down and she struggled through an endless series of cat pose crunches.
Must focus on breath--not what he said as that rain poured down like tears she didn't shed--with her eyes closed, she faced the sun when her pose allowed.
So much for trying to forget. That voice was enough to scatter her thoughts into the deep pain in her heart.
"Now, I don't believe you're really concentrating on what I've been showing you, Marcy, is it?" came the deep, drawling voice of the instructor from somewhere up above her head.
"Um, sorry," she grunted as she leaned back and looked into his twinkling brown eyes, the most gorgeous eyes she'd ever seen.
If she didn't start paying attention, she was going to be in big trouble, and not the kind you got out of easily.
"Place your hands a little further apart," the instructor said, kneeling beside her to demonstrate and bringing his face level with hers.
Fairly certain she'd regret it, she did exactly as he said because Marcy followed instructions, which might be her biggest flaw.
"Wonderful. You're doing great as I knew you would," Ken, the yoga master, murmured in her ear with approval that wrapped around her like a warm, cozy blanket.
Until she glanced up and saw Alphonso, dark eyes piercing her like daggers, standing under an oak not twenty feet away.
But the clarity of yoga and Ken's soft tone reminded her that Alfonso was like that, showing up at the worst possible moments.
Ken straightened beside her, his voice hardening to a dark pitch as he asked, "Who's the Italian stallion over there, and what does he want with you?"
Ken cocked one eyebrow at Marcy. "If you need help all you have to do is ask. No strings," he handed Marcy her water bottle.
Marcy tilted her gaze up to Ken's to discover eyes that were a deep, rich blue, focused solely on her--and they were dead serious.
"Ignore him," Sally said without even pausing in her yoga flow. "You know he's intentionally trying to rile you up."
Although she knew that her best friend was right she just couldn't help herself, the words pouring from her mouth before she could stop them.
She immediately regrets having said that when a stench dunked in onions and garlic peel travels across the distance to reach her nose.
And as almost as suddenly, Ken obliges her in the most delicious kiss she's had in years.
She thought that time might very well had stopped at that moment, but it was shortly out lived by a loud thump, a loud Alfonso.
"Getting kissed as if it was the last time," she replied dreamily, still too cought up in the sensation to realize what just happened.
Reality came crashing down on Marcy when Alfonso's thick voice boomed, 'Think you need reminding about the money you owe me for sushi at Urasawa last night!'

Ken's grey mysterious eyes focused on Marcy's eyes as if he was hypnotizing her to fall into his forbidden love ready to answer her
But he took her just as quickly by surprise as he stated, "I'm sorry, but I can't... Not tonight, anyway," he quickly amended.
